Unexpected intraoperative hypoxaemia in a healthy dog undergoing TPLO
Abstract A period of hypoxaemia was unexpectedly detected in an otherwise healthy 10‐year‐old dog undergoing tibial plateau levelling osteotomy surgery. Hypoxaemia developed approximately 10 minutes after the start of surgery. Simultaneously, the plane of anaesthesia was persistently light. Lung compliance was subjectively poor.

ABSTRACT In February 2023, an 11‐year‐old girl in Cambodia developed severe respiratory symptoms and died of pneumonia and respiratory failure after testing positive for influenza A(H5). Contract tracing and testing identified her father as positive for influenza A(H5). Investigations revealed both were likely exposed to the same sick and dead poultry.

Abstract Estimating minute ventilation (V̇E) is essential for assessing the health impacts of environmental exposures during exercise field‐studies. Predictive equations using heart rate (HR) are commonly used, but overlook exercise intensity domains, and reduced accuracy is shown, particularly for females.
