Distinguishing Posed and Spontaneous Smiles by Facial Dynamics

open access: yes, 2017
Smile is one of the key elements in identifying emotions and present state of mind of an individual. In this work, we propose a cluster of approaches to classify posed and spontaneous smiles using deep convolutional neural network (CNN) face features ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Spontaneous Subtle Expression Detection and Recognition based on Facial Strain

open access: yes, 2016
Optical strain is an extension of optical flow that is capable of quantifying subtle changes on faces and representing the minute facial motion intensities at the pixel level.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Shallow Triple Stream Three-dimensional CNN (STSTNet) for Micro-expression Recognition

open access: yes, 2019
In the recent year, state-of-the-art for facial micro-expression recognition have been significantly advanced by deep neural networks. The robustness of deep learning has yielded promising performance beyond that of traditional handcrafted approaches ...

Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy due to Biallelic Pathogenic Variants in PIGM

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective PIGM encodes a critical enzyme in the glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)‐anchor biosynthesis pathway. While promoter‐region mutations in PIGM have been associated with a relatively mild phenotype characterized by portal vein thrombosis and absence seizures, recent evidence suggests that coding‐region mutations result in a more severe

FM-GCN: Spatio-Temporal Graph Neural Network for Gender Recognition Using Facial Micro-Expressions

open access: yesIEEE Access
Gender recognition from facial images is challenging due to subtle discriminative features, particularly micro-expressions—brief, involuntary facial movements that exhibit gender-specific patterns but are difficult to capture with conventional ...

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Over the Right Temporal Parietal Junction Facilitates Spontaneous Micro-Expression Recognition

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2022
Micro-expressions are fleeting and subtle emotional expressions. As they are spontaneous and uncontrollable by one’s mind, micro-expressions are considered an indicator of genuine emotions.

Less is More: Micro-expression Recognition from Video using Apex Frame

open access: yes, 2018
Despite recent interest and advances in facial micro-expression research, there is still plenty room for improvement in terms of micro-expression recognition. Conventional feature extraction approaches for micro-expression video consider either the whole
