Facial recognition [PDF]

open access: possibleInformation, Communication & Society
This chapter examines one of the most controversial law enforcement tools ofrecent years: facial recognition technology. The chapter first charts the growth and de-velopment of this technology—from niche curiosity to its current role as a powerfulsurveillance technology driven by advanced AI processing—before considering thecomplex human rights and ...

Facial recognition — An overview

Information Security Technical Report, 1998
Abstract Research on automatic facial recognition has been ongoing for more than 20 years, and there is a large variety of solutions being proposed. The big advantage is the user-friendly way of identification by a video camera. Recently, some of the projects have resulted in commercially available products which are in use in banking and high ...

Facial expression recognition

2004 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37583), 2005
The paper aims at recognizing the various human facial expressions. Every countenance is marked by changes in the feature points of the face. These feature points are located in various regions of the face. There are two phases in the facial expression recognition technique described here.

Facial Expression Recognition

2015 Annual IEEE India Conference (INDICON), 2015
Facial expression recognition, due to its wide research areas become active research topic. This paper presents comparative analysis of automatic Facial Expression Recognition by compensating effect of age on the recognition process by Weighted Least Square filtering. System uses Gabor filter and Log Gabor filter to extract facial features.

Digital Photogrammetry for Facial Recognition

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2006
In this paper, the authors present a biometric low-cost 3D acquisition system, based on a digital photogrammetry technique. The aim of the work is to analyze the suitability of this system for facial recognition purposes. The facial data of a set of 20 people were acquired with the photogrammetric system developed by the authors, and different CAD 3D ...

Facial recognition law in China

Journal of Medical Ethics, 2022
Although the prevalence of facial recognition-based COVID-19 surveillance tools and techniques, China does not have a facial recognition law to protect its residents’ facial data. Oftentimes, neither the public nor the government knows where people’s facial images are stored, how they have been used, who might use or misuse them, and to what extent ...

Facial Recognition

2009
Over the past decade Facial Recognition has become more cohesive and reliable than ever before. We begin with an analysis explaining why certain facial recognition methodologies examined under FERET, FRVT 2000, FRVT 2002, and FRVT 2006 have become stronger and why other approaches to facial recognition are losing traction.

Facial Expression Recognition on partial facial sections

2019 11th International Symposium on Image and Signal Processing and Analysis (ISPA), 2019
Research by psychologists have shown that subjects had a preference for a side of a face when it was expressing emotions. This paper seeks to find what accuracies can be attained when only a segment of the face is considered. We show that using one side of the face only reduces accuracy by 0.34% but at half the computationally time required.

Understanding the recognition of facial identity and facial expression

Nature Reviews Neuroscience, 2005
Faces convey a wealth of social signals. A dominant view in face-perception research has been that the recognition of facial identity and facial expression involves separable visual pathways at the functional and neural levels, and data from experimental, neuropsychological, functional imaging and cell-recording studies are commonly interpreted within ...
