THE ADENOID FACIES

Adenoids apparently were not mentioned in the medical literature until 1867, when Wilhelm Meyer of Copenhagen described them, but there are many examples of the adenoid expression in early portraits. Almost all the Hapsburgs hang their mouths open as if they were afflicted with adenoids as well as with thin noses.

The Discfold Facies

The structure of the eastern portion of the area covered by Plate 1 can be described broadly as a homocline. Its dip is rather uniform to the east (Fig. 66), but its complexity varies drastically and discontinuously across strike. To the west it is relatively simple.

The Norfold Facies

Structures of the norfold facies are superimposed upon those of the sahlfold facies in Trollheimen. They developed during a late and probably final stage in the formation of Riar basin and the surrounding Svarthammer anticline. They do not appear in the eastern homocline.
