Status of CARIE facility design and construction

2023
Building new experimental facilities to house experiments is an expensive and time-consuming activity. Although usually less expensive, repurposing old experimental facilities to accommodate new ones has its own set of challenges with regard to obsolete equipment, adequacy of electrical power, radioactive shielding and cooling capacity.

Simulation, Design, and Construction of a 137Cs Irradiation Facility

Health Physics, 2007
Regulatory entities require that for any radiation facility the surrounding areas must be restricted unless the dose equivalent is less than 0.02 mSv in any one hour. Two Monte Carlo radiation transport simulation codes, MCNP5 and Mercurad, were used to design a facility to shield a 3.48 x 10(5) MBq 137Cs irradiator that meets these requirements ...

Current Trends in Health Facility Planning, Design, and Construction

Frontiers of Health Services Management, 2014
It is critical now more than ever for today's healthcare facilities to serve as more than just a backdrop to the care provided--they can, and should, be an integral part of that care. In addition to promoting efficacy, delighting the senses, and placing patients and families at ease, facilities need to be high-performing, sustainable, and healthy ...

Containment facilities: design, construction and working practices

1998
Processing biological agents requires the use of containment facilities to ensure that the biological agent is not itself contaminated and to ensure operator and environmental protection. Categorization of biological agents according to hazard and categories of containment is fully described in the ACDP guidelines [1].
