Design and construction of the UK plate impact facility

Measurement Science and Technology, 1995
The design and construction of a 50 mm bore laboratory gas gun capable of velocities up to 1000 m s-1 is described. The performance of the gun is compared with the analytical interior ballistics model of Pidduck and Kent. The adaptation for one-dimensional plate impact experiments, the instrumentation employed and the capabilities of the system are ...

Status of CARIE facility design and construction

2023
Building new experimental facilities to house experiments is an expensive and time-consuming activity. Although usually less expensive, repurposing old experimental facilities to accommodate new ones has its own set of challenges with regard to obsolete equipment, adequacy of electrical power, radioactive shielding and cooling capacity.

Simulation, Design, and Construction of a 137Cs Irradiation Facility

Health Physics, 2007
Regulatory entities require that for any radiation facility the surrounding areas must be restricted unless the dose equivalent is less than 0.02 mSv in any one hour. Two Monte Carlo radiation transport simulation codes, MCNP5 and Mercurad, were used to design a facility to shield a 3.48 x 10(5) MBq 137Cs irradiator that meets these requirements ...

Current Trends in Health Facility Planning, Design, and Construction

Frontiers of Health Services Management, 2014
It is critical now more than ever for today's healthcare facilities to serve as more than just a backdrop to the care provided--they can, and should, be an integral part of that care. In addition to promoting efficacy, delighting the senses, and placing patients and families at ease, facilities need to be high-performing, sustainable, and healthy ...

Design and construction of an acoustic lab facility

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
This paper will discuss the design and construction of a new acoustic lab facility. The lab consists of a hemi anechoic chamber and a reverberation chamber suite. The hemi anechoic chamber was designed to obtain a 0 dBA noise floor in the frequency range of interest. It features a 200 cubic meter volume inside the wedges.
