Do Energetic Challenges Mimicking Missed Foraging Encourage Torpor Use by a Neotropical Bat?

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
We experimentally tested whether Merriam's long‐tongued bat (Glossophaga mutica), a Neotropical nectarivorous species, uses heterothermy in response to reduced energy intake. We found that energetically challenged bats maintained subcutaneous temperatures significantly closer to roost temperature during the daytime inactive period.

Non‐Abrupt Vegetation Changes due to Altered Nutrient Balance Make Complex Scale‐Dependent Warming and Cooling Effects

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 3, March 2026.
Semi‐arid ecosystems are particularly vulnerable to elevated N deposition. However, there is still a critical gap in understanding the impact of N:P imbalance by considering biophysical changes and biogeochemical cycle. This study presents the complex scale‐dependent warming and cooling effects due to altered nutrient balance on the Mediterranean semi ...

Factores de riesgo psicosociales y ambientales asociados a trastornos mentales

open access: yes, 2010
In Colombia, there are few studies on the association of psychosocial and environmental factors with the most prevalent mental disorders; such studies are important due to the context of violence, social insecurity, and job and economic instability in the country.

Along the Silenced Footsteps of Latin American Pastoralists: From Mexico to Argentina, a Journey Through Pastoral Systems in Latin America

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 31, Issue 1, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Pastoralism worldwide faces a complex landscape of increased pressures and exclusion. Beyond ecological and economic challenges, pastoralists suffer eroding cultural identity, limited generational renewal, and political marginalization. Yet pastoral livelihoods are increasingly recognized as stewards of sustainable futures and amongst the best

Beyond species means – the intraspecific contribution to global wood density variation

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 6, Page 2630-2651, March 2026.
Summary Wood density is central for estimating vegetation carbon storage and a plant functional trait of great ecological and evolutionary importance. However, the global extent of wood density variation is unclear, especially at the intraspecific level. We assembled the most comprehensive wood density collection to date, including 109 626 records from
