Veronica paczoskiana is no more than a pine forest ecotype of V. spicata that evolved independently in forest‐steppes of Ukraine and the Altai region

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 3, March 2026.
The Eurasian steppe area has been a dynamic vegetation biome during the Pleistocene with its repeated cycles of forest advances and retreats. Such a scenario allows the evolution of ecotypes at the ecotone with the potential for parallel evolution in different parts of the distribution area.

Molecular and Transcriptional Signatures of Gray Matter Volume Alterations Associated With Depressive Symptoms in Mild Cognitive Impairment

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 2, February 1, 2026.
Morphological alterations related to depressive symptoms in mild cognitive impairment were primarily involved in emotion and affective processing, showing strong correspondence with serotonergic, dopaminergic, and GABAergic systems and enrichment of genes associated with synaptic function and excitatory neurons.

Influence of Temperature, Sunlight and Wind on the Mobilization of Propylene Glycol From Airport De‐Icers by Rainfall

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 44-55, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Commercial anti‐icers and de‐icers (CADs) are essential for safe winter operation; yet, their mobilization remains poorly understood, limiting the ability of airport operators to optimize treatment processes, thus presenting a significant risk to freshwater ecosystems.

Using posterior probability informed thresholds to develop best practice recommendations for MorphoPASSE using the innominate, cranial, and combined traits

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 1, Page 182-196, January 2026.
Abstract MorphoPASSE is a free program that estimates sex based on morphological traits of the innominate, cranium, or a combined set of traits; however, MorphoPASSE does not provide recommendations on which set of traits performs best or recommend a posterior probability (PP) threshold for sex classification in modern forensic casework.
