Cooling Holes in Polymer Spur Gears: A Critical Analysis of Heat Dissipation Benefits and Mesh Stiffness Penalties

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Cooling holes provide a simple passive cooling strategy for polymer spur gears, reducing maximum operating temperature by up to 9.39% while introducing a measurable gear mesh stiffness penalty. A validated response‐surface model reveals how hole size and location govern this thermal–mechanical trade‐off, enabling design optimization for thermally and ...

Process Optimization of Solution Blow Spinning for Poly (N‐Isopropylacrylamide) Fibers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Solution blow spinning has emerged as a safe and scalable technique for fabricating thermoresponsive PNIPAM fibers. The influence of key parameters on jet stability and fiber uniformity is determined through both rheological analysis and statistical process optimization. A Box–Behnken design reveals an optimized window for producing PNIPAM fibers below

SCALE-UP II: protocol for a pragmatic randomised trial examining population health management interventions to increase the uptake of at-home COVID-19 testing in community health centres

open access: yesBMJ Open
Introduction SCALE-UP II aims to investigate the effectiveness of population health management interventions using text messaging (TM), chatbots and patient navigation (PN) in increasing the uptake of at-home COVID-19 testing among patients in ...

Turning a new leaf: PhenoVision provides leaf phenology data at the global scale

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Plant phenology dictates many aspects of community function and ecosystem dynamics. Yet, global phenology data are still limited, especially in areas lacking monitoring programs. Here we present a new data resource, PhenoVision–Leaf, which extends a computer vision pipeline utilizing iNaturalist digital image vouchers to produce global‐

Effect of Cyclic Heat Exposure on the Growth Performance and Metabolism of Broilers Fed Palm Kernel Meal

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the interaction between HS and the incorporation of PKM in broiler chicken diets, as well as its effect on growth performance and metabolism. Based on the results obtained, PKM supplementation failed to mitigate the adverse effects of heat stress in broiler chickens. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the

Multivariate Analysis of Hematological Stress Biomarkers and Welfare Domains in Organic and Intensive Pig Farming in Italy: A Pilot Study

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Intensive or organic farming systems may expose pigs to management or environmental challenges. Our preliminary results concluded that organic farming might enhance adaptive immune function, showing that improvements in welfare can translate into measurable immunological benefits, based on the correlation between welfare assessment and physiological ...

Behavioral Incentives for Exercise and Intra‐Articular Glucocorticoids for Knee Osteoarthritis: Results From a Factorially Designed Pragmatic Randomized Clinical Trial

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective The purpose of this study was to determine the benefit of a behaviorally designed incentive program and glucocorticoid injections in reducing symptoms and promoting physical activity in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Methods This was a pragmatic, multisite, factorially designed, blinded, randomized clinical trial.

Different types of cluster membership in parallel-group cluster-randomised trials, where the clusters are institutions: a classification system to aid identification, with six proposed designs

open access: yesTrials
Background Four main types of cluster-randomised trial (CRT) are well known: parallel-group (PG), factorial, stepped-wedge and crossover designs. This established typology relates to how clusters are exposed to intervention(s) or control(s) during the ...

Modeling and parameter estimation for fractional large‐scale interconnected Hammerstein systems

open access: yesAsian Journal of Control, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper addresses the challenge of modeling and identifying large‐scale interconnected systems exhibiting memory effects, hereditary properties, and non‐local interactions. We propose a fractional‐order extension of the Hammerstein architecture that incorporates Grünwald–Letnikov operators to capture complex dynamics through multiple ...

Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.
