Two-Method Planned Missing Designs for Longitudinal Research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We examine longitudinal extensions of the two-method measurement design, which uses planned missingness to optimize cost-efficiency and validity of hard-to-measure constructs.

Expanding the Methodological Toolbox: Factorial Surveys in Journalism Research [PDF]

open access: yesJournalism Studies, 2020
Experimental designs to examine attitudes and behavior are crucial to make causal inferences. However, studies that assess attitudes and behavior of journalists are still dominated by correlational designs, such as used in surveys with journalists. Elaborating on historical and practical reasons for that, we argue in this paper why journalism scholars ...

Analyzing factorial survey data with structural equation models [PDF]

open access: yesSociological Methods & Research, 2021
In factorial survey designs, respondents evaluate multiple short descriptions of social objects (vignettes) that experimentally vary different levels of attributes of interest. Analytical methods (including individual-level regression analysis and multilevel models) estimate the weights (or utilities) assigned to the levels of the different attributes

Experimental Plans in Factorial Surveys [PDF]

open access: yesSociological Methods & Research, 2007
The factorial survey is an experimental design where respondents are asked to judge descriptions of varying situations (vignettes) presented to them. Combining the vignette variables (factors) and their levels is done by the researcher, who also takes the responsibility for getting an optimal design.
