Fading channel communications

IEEE Communications Magazine, 1980
Adaptive processing can reduce the effects of fading on beyond-the-horizon digital radio links. Two radio propagation channels for beyond-thehorizon communications, troposcatter, and HF are currently being reexamined. In the past, transmission over these radio channels had been considered unreliable due to fading effects.

Fading Channel Modeling

1994
The purpose of this chapter is to review the physical behaviour and characteristics of fading channels. After giving a description of multipath fading channels, we develop a statistical model for these channels. This model and its related parameters will be used throughout the book.

Fading channel simulators

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1967
Summary form only given, as follows. In the light of a recent letter to the Editor (ibid., vol. 54. p. 1072, August 1966) it may be of interest to readers to know that water tank fading channel simulators of the type described in this letter have been in operation in the graduate electrical engineering laboratories both of the Polytechnic Institute of ...

Modeling wireless channel fading

IEEE 54th Vehicular Technology Conference. VTC Fall 2001. Proceedings (Cat. No.01CH37211), 2002
We compare measured fading data with the popular Rayleigh model. Our results show that this model does not agree with the experimental data. As an alternative, we approximate the experimental data using autoregressive moving average (ARMA) models. To validate the models, we compare several characteristics of fading obtained analytically, by simulation,

The Poisson Fading Channel

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 2007
In this first paper of a two-part series, a single-user single-input single-output (SISO) shot-noise-limited Poisson channel is considered over which an information signal is transmitted by modulating the intensity of an optical beam, and individual photon arrivals are counted at the photodetector receiver.

Equivalent fading statistics in the K fading channels

2013 22nd Wireless and Optical Communication Conference, 2013
In order to obtain the fading statistics for the K fading channels, the equivalent process of the K process, i.e. the product process of a Rayleigh process and a Nakagami process, is utilized. The mapping relationship between the K process and its equivalent process is found by equating the arbitrary order moments of them. On this basis, the equivalent

Fading resistant multiuser detection over CDMA fading channels

Proceedings of ICC '93 - IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2002
The authors consider the limitations imposed by interfering fading on detector performance over asynchronous, memoryless, nondispersive, Rician faded CDMA (code division multiple access) channels, as well as mechanisms to alleviate these limitations.

Efficient Power Control over Fading Channels

IEEE GLOBECOM 2008 - 2008 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2008
This paper introduces a novel concept of efficient power control in nonergodic fading channels. We use the risk-reward approach to quantitatively describe the performance of power control schemes. A power control scheme is said to be efficient if it minimizes the risk for a given level of reward.

Distortion Exponent of MIMO Fading Channels

2006 IEEE Information Theory Workshop, 2006
In this paper, we consider transmission of a continuous amplitude source over a quasi-static MIMO Rayleigh fading channel. The performance metric is end-to-end distortion of the source caused both by the lossy compression and the channel errors. We are interested in the high SNR behavior expressed in the distortion exponent, which is the exponential ...
