Ergonomics & Human factors: fade of a discipline

open access: yesErgonomics
In this commentary, we argue that the field of Ergonomics and Human Factors (EHF) has the tendency to present itself as a thriving and impactful science, while in reality, it is losing credibility. We assert that EHF science (1) has introduced terminology that is internally inconsistent and hardly predictive-valid, (2) has virtually no impact on ...

Ethnic Differences in the Association Between SOD2 rs4880 and Hepatotoxicity in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Report From the REDIAL Consortium

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Treatment‐associated hepatotoxicity (TAH) is a common complication of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) treatment, but genetic risk factors remain poorly understood. We evaluated the SOD2 rs4880 variant in 544 children with ALL at Texas Children's Hospital. After adjusting for demographic and clinical covariates, the rs4880 C allele

Efficient implementation of pilot-aided 32 QAM for fixed wireless and mobile ISDN applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper presents the design and performance of a pilot tone-aided 32 QAM modem developed for wireless ISDN applications. The modem is capable of transmitting a gross data rate of 70 kbit/s in a 20 kHz channel spacing.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

First-Order Statistical Characteristics of Macrodiversity System with Three Microdiversity MRC Receivers in the Presence of k-µ Short-Term Fading and Gamma Long-Term Fading

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2016
Macrodiversity system with macrodiversity SC receiver and three microdiversity MRC (maximum ratio combining) receivers is considered. Independent k-μ short-term fading and correlated Gamma long-term fading are present at the inputs of microdiversity MRC ...

Multiple Fading Factors Kalman Filter for SINS Static Alignment Application

open access: yesChinese Journal of Aeronautics, 2011
AbstractTo solve the problem that the standard Kalman filter cannot give the optimal solution when the system model and stochastic information are unknown accurately, single fading factor Kalman filter is suitable for simple systems. But for complex systems with multi-variable, it may not be sufficient to use single fading factor as a multiplier for ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Experimental Characterization and Correlation Analysis of Indoor Channels at 15 GHz

open access: yesInternational Journal of Antennas and Propagation, 2015
The indoor radio channels at 15 GHz are investigated based on measurements. The large- and small-scale fading behaviors as well as the delay dispersion characteristics are discussed.
