On Trigonobalanus (Fagaceae)

This genus introduces the trichasium into the morphology of fagaceous inflorescences. Other genera of the family are considered to have been derived from ancestral pachycaul Trigonobalanus with large whorled leaves and ever-suckering habit, perhaps originally monocarpic.
