Trade‐offs in thermal response: Schizotetranychus brevisetosus winter eggs outperform summer eggs at low temperatures

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 3, Page 435-445, September 2026.
We investigated maternal effects in Schizotetranychus brevisetosus (Tetranychidae), where females oviposit summer and winter eggs in response to photoperiod on evergreen hosts. Developmental rates of immature individuals increased linearly from 15°C to 35°C, but winter and summer eggs developed faster at low and high temperatures, respectively ...

Zagros Restoration: Smart Choices for Oak Forests

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, Volume 37, Issue 14, Page 10284-10307, 30 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Widespread forest degradation across the northern Zagros region of Iran driven by both human activity and natural processes has created an urgent need for targeted afforestation and forest enrichment strategies. Hence, the aim of this study was identifying the most suitable native tree and shrub species for restoring degraded forest areas in ...

Facilitation influences when trees grow, but not growth rate in a dry temperate forest

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 2668-2684, August 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Accurately predicting the role of forests in the global carbon cycle requires a detailed understanding of the factors mediating the timing and magnitude of radial stem growth. While weather conditions and topo‐edaphic factors play a critical role in mediating short‐term

Sanitation felling against the European spruce bark beetle: A matter of intensity and forest type Tagli fitosanitari contro il bostrico tipografo: una questione di intensità e tipologia forestale

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 28, Issue 3, Page 382-397, August 2026.
We assess the effect of sanitation felling performed in 2022 in North‐Eastern Italy on bark beetle damage that occurred in 2023 across eight spruce forest types, as evaluated using multispectral satellite imagery. Bark beetle damage was reduced only at very high or very low sanitation felling rates.

The tree‐parasitic fungus Cryphonectria carpinicola discovered on European chestnut and European hornbeam in Azerbaijan

open access: yesEPPO Bulletin, Volume 56, Issue 2, Page 370-375, August 2026.
Abstract The ascomycetous fungus Cryphonectria carpinicola is typically found in its asexual form on the European hornbeam, and its sexual state has only recently been discovered in deadwood of different Carpinus species in Japan. Recently, this fungus has been added to the EPPO Alert List due to its increasing incidence in the EPPO region and a ...

Distribution and diversity of Fagaceae in Hidalgo, Mexico

open access: yesBotan‪ical Sciences, 2017
Background: The family Fagaceae is one of the most important in temperate regions of the Northern hemisphere. Fagus and Quercus are distributed in Mexico, the former in Northeastern Mexico, while the latter reaches a high diversity in the Sierra Madre ...

Local Adaptation to Current but Not Future Climate in Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests: Population Genomic Evidence in a Neotropical Legume Tree

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Neotropical seasonally dry biomes are amongst the world's most threatened ecosystems and are predicted to lose more biodiversity with climate change. The capacity of natural populations to respond to these changes depends on their genetic variation, but is poorly understood in most Neotropical seasonally dry forest species.

Fagaceae tree species allocate higher fraction of nitrogen to photosynthetic apparatus than Leguminosae in Jianfengling tropical montane rain forest, China.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Variation in photosynthetic-nitrogen use efficiency (PNUE) is generally affected by several factors such as leaf nitrogen allocation and leaf diffusional conductances to CO2, although it is still unclear which factors significantly affect PNUE in ...

Fagaceae

open access: yes, 1972
Monoecious trees or rarely shrubs, in Mai. evergreen, sometimes buttressed or with stilt-roots; growth mode flushwise, with perular buds. Hairs simple or stellate or fasciculate, rarely with resiniferous colleters, or scales on pits on the underside of the leaf.
