Independent Orbiter Assessment (IOA): Analysis of the orbiter main propulsion system [PDF]

open access: yes
The results of the Independent Orbiter Assessment (IOA) of the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Critical Items List (CIL) are presented. The IOA approach features a top-down analysis of the hardware to determine failure modes, criticality ...

Dual PI3K/AKT and CDK4/6 inhibition reveals selective sensitivity in an SHH medulloblastoma stem cell model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Establishment of a humanized patient‐derived xenograft mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer for preclinical evaluation of combination immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We have established a humanized orthotopic patient‐derived xenograft (Hu‐oPDX) mouse model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) that recapitulates human tumor–immune interactions. Using combined anti‐PD‐L1/anti‐CD73 immunotherapy, we demonstrate the model's improved biological relevance and enhanced translational value for preclinical ...

System reliability analysis of bedrock-soil layer slopes subject to seismic action based on the upper bound limit analysis method

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
Bedrock-soil layer slopes (BSLSs) are widely distributed in nature. The existence of the interface between bedrock and soil layer (IBSL) affects the failure modes of the BSLSs, and the seismic action makes the failure modes more complex.

The Reliability of a Tunnel Boring Machine [PDF]

open access: yes
Greater levels of complexity in tunnelling with Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) allow higher chances of fail-ures that may increase the potential hazardous risks. This paper presents the results of a study on TBM reliability using risk analysis.

Inherent Problems in Designing Two-Failure Tolerant Electromechanical Actuators [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
An electromechanical ac-powered rotary actuated four-bar linkage system for rotating the Shuttle/Centaur deployment adapter is described. The essential features of the deployment adapter rotation system (DARS) are increased reliability for mission ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Reliability Evaluation Method for Aeroengine Turbine Rotor Assemblies Considering Interaction of Multiple Failure Modes

open access: yesActuators
In complex mechanical systems involving multiple parts and contact interfaces, failure modes are not only statistically correlated but may also interact through underlying physical mechanisms.

Study on the Stability of the Coal Seam Floor above a Confined Aquifer Using the Structural System Reliability Method

open access: yesGeofluids, 2018
A quantitative method of structural system reliability was proposed to study the influence of random rock mechanical parameters and loads on the stability of the coal seam floor above confined aquifers. To obtain the reliability probability of the floor,
