Abstract In this article bivariate failure rate is defined, and it is shown that no absolutely continuous bivariate distribution with constant failure rate exists except in the special case when the marginals are independently distributed.

Failure rate is the most commonly used term in reliability and related engineering interests, yet it is still not well understood by perhaps the majority of those using it. Indeed, more than one reliability treatise wrongly defines failure rate as a conditional probability density, i.e., wrong by the accepted criterion of what constitutes any ...

Failure mechanism based failure rate model
2009 9th International Conference on Electronic Measurement & Instruments, 2009For electronic products, the typical failure rate curve takes on three-stage bathtub shape, while few failure rate equations can describe the bathtub shaped curve. Based on environment load impact failure mechanism, the present paper develops load-property interference failure rate model for electronic products. The operation load, i.e.

For a collection of devices, it is critically important to be able to understand the expected failure rate for the devices. For the supplier of such devices, the expected failure rate will be an important indicator of future warranty liability. For the customer, the expected failure rate will be an important indicator of future satisfaction.

Failure rate — a unified approach
Journal of Applied Probability, 1976Aging, of biological and mechanical systems, is well described as ‘deterioration of the power to withstand destruction.’ The failure-rate concept is the mathematical way of describing aging. Failure rates have been defined for discrete and continuous time and used extensively, particularly in actuarial science and reliability.

Current Opinion in Cardiology, 2016
Resting heart rate has long been thought to be a risk factor in cardiovascular disease and a prognostic factor in heart failure. β-Blockers were originally used in heart failure for their heart rate control abilities. However, they also have negative inotropic effects contributing to their overall benefit.
