What Price Fairness? A Bargaining Study [PDF]

open access: yes
Our study concerns bargaining behavior in situations where one party is in a stronger position than the other. We investigate both the tradeoff the favored party makes between pursuing his strategic advantage and giving weight to other players' concern ...

Machine Learning Accelerated Computational Design of Bio‐Inspired Catalysts in the Nitrogen Reduction Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a computational workflow that combines quantum chemical calculations and machine learning techniques to predict the catalytic performance of a wide range of catalysts in the nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR). The analysis of the trained models provides insights into the complex structure–activity relationship in experimental catalytic ...

Fairness Properties of Constrained Market Equilibria [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper studies the notion of fairness in pure exchange economies involving uncertainty and asymmetric information. We propose a new concept of coalitional fair allocation in order to solve the tension that may exist between efficiency and envy ...

Exploring Bias and Prediction Metrics to Characterise the Fairness of Machine Learning for Equity-Centered Public Health Decision-Making: A Narrative Review

open access: yesIEEE Access
The rapid advancement of Machine Learning (ML) represents novel opportunities to enhance public health research, surveillance, and decision-making. However, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding of algorithmic bias — systematic errors in ...

Toward a Unified Mechanistic Understanding of Polymer Electrolytes for Advanced Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Polymer electrolytes (PEs) are often indiscriminately grouped as “solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs)”, despite fundamental differences in their ion‐transport mechanisms. This Perspective establishes a mechanism‐based framework that distinguishes gel, quasi‐solid, and all‐solid polymer electrolytes based on their dominant ion‐transport pathways.

Gender Equality as Integral to Social Justice – and vice versa

open access: yesRevista Tecnológica
The pursuit of social justice fundamentally requires gender equality, just as meaningful gender equality necessitates social justice. This means that each is integral to achieving the other.

Enhancing Performance and Reliability of Hf1‐xZrxO2 Morphotropic Phase Boundary Films via Nanolaminate Structuring and Microwave Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hf–Zr–O‐based morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) thin films often suffer from limited endurance and poor uniformity due to intrinsic phase instability. This work proposes a nanolaminate architecture that spatially separates competing phases, stabilizes phase formation, and suppresses wake‐up‐induced degradation.

Analyzing LLM Sentencing Variability in Theft Indictments Across Gender, Family Status and the Value of the Stolen Item

open access: yesApplied Sciences
As large language models (LLMs) increasingly enter high-stakes decision-making contexts, questions arise about their suitability in domains requiring normative judgment, such as judicial sentencing.

Spacer‐Less Substrate‐Integrated Metasurface for Near‐Unity Terahertz Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Although conventional metal‐insulator‐metal (MIM) terahertz (THz) absorbers can provide near‐unity absorption, their multilayer stacks inevitably introduce additional thickness, mass, and residual stress, which limit their compatibility with THz thermal sensing platforms.
