The Role of Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation in Ataxia‐Telangiectasia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ataxia‐telangiectasia (A‐T) is a DNA repair disorder characterized by neurodegeneration, immunodeficiency, and cancer predisposition. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) is an established therapy in related disorders such as Fanconi anemia (FA) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS), but its role in A‐T is unclear.

Faithful linear representations of bands [PDF]

open access: yesPublicacions Matemàtiques, 2009
A band is a semigroup consisting of idempotents. It is proved that for any field K and any band S with finitely many components, the semigroup algebra K [S] can be embedded in upper triangular matrices over a commutative K-algebra. The proof of a theorem of Malcev [4, Theorem 10] on embeddability of algebras into matrix algebras over a field is ...

Historical Visuals and Reconstruction of Motion: A Gestalt Perspective on Medieval Fencing Iconography

open access: yesGestalt Theory, 2020
Several subdisciplines within historiography, most notably the arms and armour or martial arts studies, are interested in inferring physical qualities of historical material objects from historical sources.

Increased Risk of Sarcomas in Children With Congenital Anomalies: Findings From the Genetic Overlap Between Anomalies and Cancer in Kids (GOBACK) Registry Linkage Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Pediatric sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of tumors that contribute disproportionately to cancer mortality in children. Although congenital anomalies are among the strongest known risk factors for childhood cancer, the risk of specific sarcoma subtypes among affected individuals has not yet been thoroughly evaluated. Procedure We

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Modeling geophysical complexity: a case for geometric determinism [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2007
It has been customary in the last few decades to employ stochastic models to represent complex data sets encountered in geophysics, particularly in hydrology.

Computational Representations of Myocardial Infarct Scars and Implications for Arrhythmogenesis

open access: yesClinical Medicine Insights: Cardiology, 2016
Image-based computational modeling is becoming an increasingly used clinical tool to provide insight into the mechanisms of reentrant arrhythmias. In the context of ischemic heart disease, faithful representation of the electrophysiological properties of

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Groups with faithful irreducible projective unitary representations [PDF]

open access: yesForum Mathematicum, 2011
For a countable group G and a multiplier c on G with values in the circle, we study the property of G having a unitary projective c-representation which is both irreducible and projectively faithful. We show that this property is equivalent to G being the quotient of an appropriate group by its centre.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
