An overview of the oldest and most comprehensive avifauna of the early Eocene British London Clay

open access: yesPapers in Palaeontology, Volume 12, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
Abstract Early Eocene birds from the British London Clay have been known for two centuries, but a comprehensive understanding of the avifauna of the London Clay Formation is still in its infancy. In the present study, the bird assemblage of the Walton Member is reviewed, which represents one of the oldest subdivisions of the formation.

Trophic Niche Breadth of Falconidae Species Predicts Biomic Specialisation but Not Range Size

open access: yesBiology, 2022
Trophic niche breadth plays a key role in biogeographic distribution patterns. Theory posits that generalist strategies are favoured in a more heterogeneous set of environments across a spatio-temporal gradient of resources predictability, conferring ...

A Global, Taxon‐Stratified, High‐Resolution Sampling‐Effort Dataset From GBIF for Bias‐Aware Ecological Modelling

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 32, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction and Aim Spatiotemporal and taxonomic sampling bias in biodiversity occurrence data poses critical challenges for robust ecological inference, species distribution models (SDMs), and conservation planning. Despite the exponential growth in global biodiversity records over recent decades, these biases persist.

Beyond Species Diversity: Functional Approaches Reveal Consistent Fauna Community Responses to Exotic Grass Invasion in Arid Lands

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
To assess whether the impacts of exotic plant invasion can be generalised across taxa, we developed a conceptual framework predicting faunal responses to grass invasion in open, arid ecosystems and tested our predictions using data on birds, reptiles and ants from sites invaded by buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) and paired uninvaded sites.
