Analysis of jumping/falling distance from a height

Forensic Science International, 2006
The kinematic motion analysis of 50 jumps from a height of 5m demonstrated distinguishable maxima of jumping distances between passive and active jumps (1.0-3.4 and 3.7-7.1 m, respectively). The variation of several parameters concerning the 'take-off' mechanism showed less influence regarding the jumping distances.

Falls From Heights: A Problem Not Just in the Northeast

Pediatrics, 1993
Background. Falls from windows and balconies have long been recognized as a health hazard facing children in large, eastern cities. No study has explored this problem in western and sunbelt states. Methods. A retrospective chart review of children admitted to a large, west coast hospital for injuries sustained secondary to a fall from

Head injury due to falls from heights

Injury, 1970
Forty-three cases of head injury due to falling from a height of more than 10 feet have been studied. Forty survived and all survivors returned to normal life. Infants under the age of 5 years sustained twice as many fractures of the skull as adults, but these were attended by less brain trauma than the adults.

Prognostic factors in victims of falls from height*

Critical Care Medicine, 2005
Falls from height cause significant mortality in the urban environment, but reliable prognostic factors have not been identified. Even the intuitive relation between the distance fallen and mortality rate has been questioned. Our objective was to determine factors predictive of increased mortality rate in victims of falls from height.Clinical ...

Fall from heights: does height really matter?

European Journal of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, 2017
Fall from heights is high energy injuries and constitutes a fraction of all fall-related trauma evaluations while bearing an increase in morbidity and mortality. We hypothesize that despite advancements in trauma care, the overall survivability has not improved in this subset of trauma patients. All adult trauma patients treated after sustaining a fall ...

Thoracic trauma in fatal falls from height — Traumatic pneumopericardium correlates with height of fall and severe injury

Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology, 2018
Pneumopericardium (PPC) describes the collection of gas in the pericardial sac. In tension Pneumopericardium (tPPC), this collection of gas may lead to cardiac tamponade. PPC following blunt trauma is considered a rare finding, as reflected by the low number of case reports on the topic.

Distribution of injuries in fall from height and its relation to height of fall and primary impact

Journal of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine, 2018
In fall from height, the patterns of external injuries and the types of internal injuries may, together, indicate the primary site of impact and the height from which the fall had occurred. They may therefore be applied to the reconstruction of the fatal events.

Fatal Falls from Height

2009
Especially in urban settings, falls from height are a phenomenon that significantly contributes to population morbidity and mortality. The injuries sustained vary depending on the falling height, the composition of the impact surface, the position of the body when landing and individual factors such as age, body weight and preexisting disease. Cases of
