Characteristics of fall‐related head injury versus non‐head injury in the older adults

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics, 2021
Background This study aimed to examine the characteristics of older adults patients who suffered a head injury after a ground-level fall in comparison to non-head injury patients as well as the factors associated with severity in those with head injury ...

Wait-time benchmarks fall short [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Medical Association Journal, 2006
New wait-time benchmarks announced Dec. 12 by the federal government were both lauded as a major shift in health care delivery and criticized for failing to set deadlines for implementation.

Leisure-Time Physical Activity, Falls, and Fall Injuries in Middle-Aged Adults [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Preventive Medicine, 2015
Although exercise and strength training have been shown to be protective against falls in older adults (aged 65 years and older), evidence for the role of leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) in the prevention of falls and resulting injuries in middle-aged adults (aged 45-64 years) is lacking.

On the roots of the Poincare structure of asymptotically flat spacetimes

open access: yes, 2003
The analysis of vacuum general relativity by R. Beig and N. O Murchadha (Ann. Phys. vol 174, 463 (1987)) is extended in numerous ways. The weakest possible power-type fall-off conditions for the energy-momentum tensor, the metric, the extrinsic curvature,

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

EFFECTS OF COVER BOARD AGE, SEASON, AND HABITAT ON THE OBSERVED ABUNDANCE OF EASTERN RED-BACKED SALAMANDERS (PLETHODON CINEREUS) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Plethodontid salamanders are potentially good ecological indicator species in woodland habitats due to their abundance and sensitivity to changes in the environment.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Time-Critical Fall Prediction Based on Lipschitz Data Analysis and Design of a Reconfigurable Walker for Preventing Fall Injuries

open access: yesIEEE Access
Falls may cause serious injuries to older adults, leading to a deteriorated quality of life. Currently, there is a lack of fall injury prevention devices, especially for the balance impaired population who rely on mobility aids.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.
