Synchronized pulse generator needs no external power [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
Simple circuit with high input and low output impedance generates a fast rise-time pulse synchronized with an input pulse of slower rise and fall times.

The effects of r-process heating on fall-back accretion in compact object mergers

open access: yes, 2009
We explore the effects of r-process nucleosynthesis on fall-back accretion in neutron star(NS)-NS and black hole-NS mergers, and the resulting implications for short-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs).

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Towards safer environments: A YOLO and MediaPipe-based human fall detection system with alert automation

open access: yesMethodsX
Detecting human falls is essential to ensuring public safety, particularly in public areas like transit terminals. This study provides a precise and effective real-time fall detection system by utilising pose estimation and deep learning-based object ...

Falling into Time in Homer'sIliad [PDF]

open access: yesClassical Antiquity, 2006
Abstract This paper addresses the question of the relation between mortal and immortal time in the Iliad as it is represented by the physical act of falling. I begin by arguing that falling serves as a point of reference throughout the poem for a concept of time that is specifically human.

Slope failures over a wide area in the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake and its evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake caused a large amount of slope failures over a wide area.In particular, the enormous damage due to slope failures was centered in Atsuma and Abira town which are to the north of the epicenter.

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Dissertation: Examining and investigating home modifications and smart home technologies to reduce fall injury among older adults. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Nearly one in six U.S. residents are over the age of 65. The proportion of older adults in the U.S. is anticipated to grow to 22.1% of the total population by 2050.

Considerations on the Role of Fall-Back Discs in the Final Stages of the Common Envelope Binary Interaction

open access: yes, 2016
The common envelope interaction is thought to be the gateway to all evolved compact binaries and mergers. Hydrodynamic simulations of the common envelope interaction between giant stars and their companions are restricted to the dynamical, fast, in ...

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.
