Managing Sonchus arvensis using mechanical and cultural methods [PDF]
Perennial sow-thistle (Sonchus arvensis L.) represents an increasing problem in Finland. Options for mechanical and cultural control of S. arvensis were studied in a field experiment on clay soil under organic production.

Cirsium arvense management with electrical weed control and clopyralid
Electrical weed control (EWC) treatments reduced Cirsium arvense biomass by ≤95% and suppressed new shoot emergence by 70–95%, achieving control comparable to clopyralid. Sequential or integrated applications enhanced efficacy, demonstrating EWC's potential as a nonchemical tool for perennial weed management in orchard systems.

Planted tree fallows and their influence on soil fertility and maize production in East Africa [PDF]
Soil fertility depletion is a main constraint to food production in sub-Saharan Africa. This thesis concerns the potential of N2-fixing trees to increase nitrogen inputs to agroforestry systems and accordingly to improve crop production.

Thirty years of glyphosate‐resistant crops and weeds: Current situation and future prospects
Since 1996, when the first glyphosate‐resistant crop was commercialized and the first resistant weed was reported, resistance has expanded globally. This review analyzes emergence patterns across weed species, crops, regions, resistance mechanisms, and herbicides.

ESTIMATION OF SOIL EROSION TIME PATHS: THE VALUE OF SOIL MOISTURE AND TOPSOIL DEPTH INFORMATION [PDF]
Rates of soil erosion in the dryland cropping region of Saskatchewan are investigated under alternative cropping strategies. Chemical fallow is examined as an alternative to tillage fallow for moisture and soil conservation.

Carabid and staphylinid communities are shaped by adjacent habitat type, prey availability and landscape context, influencing natural pest control across agricultural landscapes. Abstract BACKGROUND The functioning of agroecosystems depends on key ecosystem processes that deliver ecosystem services, yet agricultural management has increasingly shifted ...

ECONOMICS OF WHEAT-FALLOW CROPPING SYSTEMS IN WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA [PDF]
Income and risk aspects of wheat-fallow cropping systems are analyzed in western North Dakota. A wheat yield trend estimation model based on county yields (1950-77) is developed using independent variables of year, annual precipitation, acres of ...

Residual effects of fallows on selected soil hydraulic properties in a kaolinitic soil subjected to conventional tillage (CT) and no tillage (NT) [PDF]
Improved fallows have been used to reduce time required for soil fertility regeneration after cropping in low input agricultural systems. In semi-arid areas of Southern Africa, Acacia angustissima and Sesbania sesban are among some of the more widely ...
