Prediction of fan broadband noise
4th AIAA/CEAS Aeroacoustics Conference, 1998The objective of the present work is to develop a complete theory of fan broadband noise in UHBR engines. This paper focuses on dipole broadband noise sources, resulting from the interaction of turbulent inflows with the fan rotor. A modal expansion in a hard-walled duct is used to evaluate the sound power radiated from the sources, taking into account

Fan and compressor noise attenuation
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010The present invention is a noise attenuation system (40) and related method for suppressing noise having a primary tone generated by a jet engine (20). An exciting sound wave generator (40) is positioned within the nacelle (22) of the jet engine at its inlet (26) to generate an exciting sound wave having a primary frequency generally different from a ...

Acoustic noise control for fans
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1989Apparatus for the abatement of noise from cooling fans primarily in computer and business equipment. Noise of mechanical origin is reduced by damping the fan casing, by mass-loading the casing (at low frequencies), by isolating the casing from its surrounds, and by absorbing some of the noise as it is radiated from the fan casing.

Measurement of the Noise of Ducted Fans
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1956A proposed technique for measuring the noise of a ducted fan by means of a microphone placed inside the fan duct was evaluated by comparing results so obtained with those obtained by measuring the total sound energy radiated from the duct into a reverberation chamber. A suitable microphone windscreen was developed and was used to reduce the aerodynamic
