Structure‐Function Tailoring of Plasmonic Nanomaterials for Thin‐Film Photovoltaics

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This review discusses the mechanisms and recent advancements of plasmonics in achieving effective light management to enhance the performance of thin‐film solar cells. It highlights applications in high‐performance perovskite solar cells and future‐oriented tandem solar cells.

Models of DG‐Carbon Bands in Raman Spectra: Effects of Basis Functions and Initial Values on the Uniqueness and S/N of Fits Obtained for Atmospheric Aerosol Using Automated Methods

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Raman spectra containing D/G features are fit using combinations of basis functions and initial conditions. Fits with two Lorentzian functions converged to a single optimized fit even with variation of initial peak positions. For five‐band fits, sometimes the final fit varied with initial conditions, and constraints on peak center position were ...

Derived categories of toric Fano 3-folds via the Frobenius morphism

open access: yesLe Matematiche, 2009
In [8, Conjecture 3.6], Costa and Miró-Roig state the following conjecture:Every smooth complete toric Fano variety has a full strongly exceptional collection of line bundles. The goal of this article is to prove it for toric Fano 3-folds.

On the Picard Number of Singular Fano Varieties [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Mathematics Research Notices, 2012
Let X be a Q-factorial Gorenstein Fano variety. Suppose that the singularities of X are canonical and that the locus where they are non-terminal has dimension zero. Let D be a prime divisor of X. We show that rho_X - rho_D < 9 (where rho is the Picard number). Moreover, if rho_X - rho_D > 3, there exists a finite morphism from X to S x Y, where S

Recent Advances in Photonic Bound States in the Continuum: From Fundamentals to Engineering and Implementation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent progress in meta‐photonics with a focus on bound states in the continuum (BICs) as a powerful platform for light confinement and control. It covers fundamental concepts, design strategies across optical regimes, symmetry breaking for practical quasi‐BICs, tunable and AI‐assisted BIC devices, and emerging applications in ...

Rigorous Electromagnetic Quasinormal‐Mode Method Made Easy for Users

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
We present a method that combines numerical techniques with accurate approximations to enable simple and ultrafast computations of the scattered field based on quasinormal modes expansions. The method is made available in the open‐source package MANlite implemented within COMSOL.

Optimal destabilization of K-unstable Fano varieties via stability thresholds

open access: yes, 2021
We show that for a K-unstable Fano variety, any divisorial valuation computing its stability threshold induces a nontrivial special test configuration preserving the stability threshold.

On stringy de Sitter spacetimes

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We reexamine a family of models with a 3+1-dimensional de Sitter spacetime obtained in the standard tree-level low-energy limit of string theory with a non-trivial anisotropic axion-dilaton background.

Sensors Based on Plasmonic-Photonic Coupling in Metallic Photonic Crystals

open access: yesSensors, 2012
An optical sensor based on the coupling between the plasmonic and photonic resonance modes in metallic photonic crystals is investigated. Large-area metallic photonic crystals consisting of periodically arranged gold nanostructures with dimensions down ...

Benthic megafauna and the functioning of macroalgal forests and urchin barrens

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Two temperate rocky reef food‐web models, representing the trophic diversity of the Mediterranean rocky reef communities, were built for the two stable states: macroalgal forests and barren grounds, which are characterized by opposite amounts of erect macroalgal biomass.
