Convex Relaxation Methods for Unified Near-Field and Far-Field TDOA-Based Localization
IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2019This paper develops two convex relaxation solutions for the unified localization of a signal source using time difference of arrival measurements, regardless of whether the source is in the near field for coordinate positioning or in the far field for ...

Far Field Splitting for the Helmholtz Equation
SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 2014Given far field data of a time-harmonic wave radiated by an ensemble of well separated acoustic or electromagnetic sources as well as a priori information on the locations of these sources, we discuss an algorithm to approximate the far field data radiated by each of these sources separately.

Far field somatosensory potentials in the rat
Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1977Averaged somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) in the rat were recorded from skull electrodes. The cortical component of the SEP was preceded by at least three low amplitude potentials. Surface distribution of these potentials, correlation with depth recording from posterior columns, posterior column nuclei, inferior cerebellar peduncle, medial ...

Far‐field characterization of small apertures
Journal of Microscopy, 2003SummaryA far‐field method for characterizing apertures based on the relationship between the relative intensity of propagating modes in a given medium and a small aperture illuminated with a light beam is proposed. A simple optical set‐up based on computer‐generated holograms and spatial filters is suggested to measure the relative strength of modes ...

Although the microscope image comparator was designed for quantifying the severity of surface imperfections, its ability to measure luminosity values of any image and compare values with images of similar objects suggests there may be other uses for this instrument.

5G antenna characterization in the far-field: How close can far-field be?
2018 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility and 2018 IEEE Asia-Pacific Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC/APEMC), 20185G mobile devices and base stations will be operating antenna arrays and beam-steering techniques in the millimeter-wave region. The question of the far-field measurement distance is particularly critical for such technologies as a larger over-the-air test range means dynamic range issues and significantly larger cost.

Image coding with far-field holograms
Applied Optics, 1978Two image-coding capabilities associated with far-field holograms are analytically and experimentally evaluated. It is demonstrated that preprocessed information concerning the shape of a small object can be efficiently coded into the fringe structure associated with a far-field hologram.

For Smart Building Integration many wireless sensors are needed. Far-field RF energy transport may be used to charge the batteries of these sensors. Due to path loss and transmit power limitations the RF power available at the sensors will be very low.
