Soil–Structure Interaction Effects on Seismic Responses of a Conventional and Isolated Bridge Subjected to Moderate Near-Fault and Far-Field Records

open access: yesCivilEng, 2023
Seismic isolation is a powerful tool for mitigating seismic risk and improving structural performance. However, some parameters, such as earthquake inputs and soil characteristics, influence the technology’s performance. This research aims to investigate

Selection of Ground Motion Intensity Measures in Fragility Analysis of a Mega-Scale Steel Frame Structure at Separate Limit States: A Case Study

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
Selecting an appropriate ground motion intensity measure (IM) to estimate the aleatory uncertainty produced by ground motion variability is the first and crucial step in fragility analysis. The choice of IM is influenced not only by the structural system

Spatially-Distributed RISs vs Relay-Assisted Systems: A Fair Comparison

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, 2021
This paper aims to make a comparison between decode-and-forward (DF) relays and reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) in the case where only one relay or RIS is selected based on the maximization of the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR).

60% Efficient Monolithically Wavelength-Stabilized 970-nm DBR Broad-Area Lasers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
Progress in epitaxial design is shown to enable increased optical output power Popt and power conversion efficiency ηE and decreased lateral far-field divergence angle in GaAs-based distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) broad-area (BA) diode lasers ...

Robust far-field imaging by spatial coherence engineering

open access: yesOpto-Electronic Advances, 2021
The degree of coherence (DOC) function that characterizes the second-order correlations at any two points in a light field is shown to provide a new degree of freedom for carrying information.

Hydrogen Sensor: Detecting Far-Field Scattering of Nano-Blocks (Mg, Ag, and Pd)

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Hydrogen sensor technologies have been rapidly developing. For effective and safe sensing, we proposed a hydrogen sensor composed of magnesium (Mg), silver (Ag), and palladium (Pd) nano-blocks that overcomes the spectral resolution limit.

Far-Field Autofluorescence Nanoscopy [PDF]

open access: yesNano Letters, 2010
We demonstrate far-field optical imaging at the nanoscale with unlabeled samples. Subdiffraction resolution images of autofluorescent samples are obtained by depleting the ground state of natural fluorophores by transferring them to a metastable dark state and simultaneously localizing those fluorophores that are transiently returning.

Far-Field and Non-Intrusive Optical Mapping of Nanoscale Structures

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
Far-field high-density optics storage and readout involve the interaction of a sub-100 nm beam profile laser to store and retrieve data with nanostructure media.
