Abstract Two far i.r. lines from a pulsed helium laser have been accurately measured with a metal grid Fabry-Perot interferometer at wavelengths of 95.763 ± 0.006 μm and 216.12 ± 0.01μm. The laser output critically depends on the plasma conditions in the laser during the excitation phase.

Investigation of far-infrared lasers
Optical Engineering, 1993Far-infrared (FIR) lasers are frequently used in plasma diagnostics, molecular spectroscopy, and solid state material testing. The conversion of the power of the pumping laser into the FIR laser so far is usually not as effective as that theoretically predicted, because of the bottleneck'' of the vibrational relaxation rate.

The amplitude noise of optically pumped cw FIR lasers is drastically reduced by using a FIR ring resonator instead of a linear resonator. Laser emission switches from the clockwise mode to the counterclockwise mode at the FIR line center, a feature permitting precise frequency stabilization of FIR lasers. A 100 μm wavelength Cerenkov laser experiment has been planned. The device will be driven by a 5 MeV, 2 A (peak] microtron accelerator and the resonator will be a thin-film-loaded planar structure. Summaries of the theoretically-expected device performance and experimental progress will be presented.

Plasma-shutter for far-infrared laser radiation
Infrared Physics & Technology, 1994A new type of a plasma shutter for far-infrared (FIR) laser radiation is presented. This plasma shutter blocks a FIR laser beam within 0.7 ns by a rapidly expanding plasma. This device has been applied to produce FIR pulses with variable duration between 10 and 100 ns and to select 1-ns FIR pulses from a pulse train.

Far-Infrared Laser Assignments for Methylamine [PDF]
Reported far-infrared laser lines for five different transition systems of CH3NH2 optically pumped by a CO2 laser have been identified spectroscopically through a high-resolution Fourier transform infrared study of the C-N stretching band together with CO2-laser/microwave-sideband broad-scan and Lamb-dip measurements.

Using two isotopic species, 12CH3F and 13CH3F in a Raman FIR laser kilowatt level pulses have been generated which can be tuned continuously over more than half of the range from 145 to 610 µm. Laser emission spectra and tuning curves are presented, and several molecular processes are described which produce distinctive features in the observed data.

Optically Pumped Far Infrared Lasers
1974 International Conference on Submillimeter Waves and Their Applications, 1974Intense superradiant laser action on a pure rotational transition in optically pumped CH3F has been recently reported. 1,2 It is the purpose of this paper to present a parametric study on similar superradiant transitions observed in other molecules.

Far-infrared gas-discharge laser
Proceedings of LFNM 2002. 4th International Workshop on Laser and Fiber-Optical Networks Modeling (IEEE Cat. No.02EX549), 2003The need for creation of a low cost and reliable submillimeter HCN laser for laboratory biomedical research has arisen. We have developed a submillimeter-wave gas-discharge HCN laser with a low frequency (LF) pumping of frequency 50 Hz specially designed for laboratory and clinical biomedical research.

Far-Infrared Laser Diagnostics in EAST
Plasma Science and Technology, 2011Structure, improvements and experiment results of a vertical three-channel far- infrared (FIR) hydrogen cyanide (HCN) laser interferometer, operated routinely in EAST to measure the electron density profile, are presented. Moreover, a five-channel deuterium cyanide (DCN) laser interferometer was developed successfully.
