Infrared study of nonstoichiometric anatase TiO2 nanopowders [PDF]

open access: yesScience of Sintering, 2006
The infrared (IR) reflectivity of laser synthesized TiO2 nanopowder in the anatase phase with a small deviation from stoichiometry is reported. The samples were characterized by SEM, XRD and BET measurements as well as Raman and photoluminescence ...

Galaxy Properties from the Ultra-violet to the Far-Infrared: Lambda-CDM models confront observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We combine a semi-analytic model of galaxy formation with simple analytic recipes describing the absorption and re-emission of starlight by dust in the interstellar medium of galaxies. We use the resulting models to predict galaxy counts and luminosity functions from the far-ultraviolet to the sub-mm, from redshift five to the present, and compare with

Sky Confusion Noise in the Far-Infrared: Cirrus, Galaxies and the Cosmic Far-Infrared Background [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We examined the sky confusion noise in 40 sky regions by analysing 175 far-infrared (90--200 $\mu$m) maps obtained with ISOPHOT, the photometer on-board the Infrared Space Observatory. For cirrus fields with $\rm < \rm B > > 5$ MJysr$^{-1}$ the formula based on IRAS data (Helou & Beichman, \cite{Helou+Beichman_90}) predicts confusion noise values ...

Thermal photon statistics in laser light above threshold [PDF]

open access: yesPhys.Rev. A62 (2000) 063807, 1999
We show that the reduction in photon number fluctuations at laser threshold often cited as a fundamental laser property does not occur in typical semiconductor lasers such as the ones commonly used in modern technological applications today. Indeed, such lasers may still exhibit thermal intensity fluctuations far above threshold.

Elucidating the Supramolecular Interaction of Positively Supercharged Fluorescent Protein with Anionic Phthalocyanines

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Positively supercharged mGreenLatern protein is self‐assembled electrostatically with negatively charged zinc phthalocyanines to yield bio‐based photoactive materials in aqueous media. The addition of phthalocyanines results in the formation of large complexes fully quenching of the protein fluorescence. The results indicate an energy transfer from the

Analysis of periodic spectral gaps observed in the tuning range of free-electron lasers with a partial waveguide

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2009
A phenomenon of “spectral gaps” is observed in far-infrared free-electron lasers using partial waveguiding: the laser power falls down to zero at some particular wavelengths, whatever the beam adjustments are.

Nanoparticle‐Coated X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 Powder for Additive Manufacturing – Part I: Surface, Flowability, and Optical Properties of SiC, Si, and Si3N4 Coated Metal Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, silicon‐based nanoparticle coatings on X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 metal powder are presented. The coating process scale, process parameters, nanoparticle size (65–200 nm) as well as the coating amount are discussed regarding powder properties. The surface roughness affects the flowability, while reflectance depends on the coating material and surface ...

An Examination of Aerosol Jet‐Printed Surface Roughness and its Impact on the Performance of High‐Frequency Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores aerosol jet‐printed (AJP) surface roughness, its effects on the performance of microwave electronics, and its process contributors. First, an electromagnetic model is vetted for AJP's unique roughness signature. Simulations are built which show process‐induced roughness is as significant as conductor resistivity in driving microwave

Geometry‐Based Scan Curve Analysis: Rapid Method for the Evaluation of Scan Strategies in Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents rapid evaluation methods for scan strategies in powder bed fusion (PBF) of polymers with a NIR laser as an example for its application. It uses line buffer‐based calculations and point density fields to predict the performance of four different scan strategies. The methods show promising results in laser‐based PBF of polymer samples,
