Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

Far-infrared distributed feedback gas laser [PDF]
Theory and first operation of a distributed feedback gas laser is expanded. This goal has been achieved by an optically pumped 496μm CH 3 F laser equipped with a hollow metal waveguide with deep periodic corrugations. The period of corrugations is tuned by temperature variation. Single-mode operation is achieved. The working pressure of CH 3 F is up to

Photonic Engineering Enables All‐Passive Upconversion Imaging with Low‐Intensity Near‐Infrared Light
A passive upconversion imaging system enables the observation of scenes illuminated by low‐intensity incoherent near‐infrared light from 750 to 930 nm, by converting it into the visible without the use of external power. The upconverter is enabled by triplet–triplet annihilation in a bulk heterojunction, with absorption enhanced by plasmonic resonators

Strain‐Activated Photo‐Dehalogenation Unlocks Low‐Energy One and Two‐Photon 3D Microfabrication
5,14‐NMI‐Cz acts, conversely to its 7,10‐NMI‐Cz(7,10‐'dibromo‐2‐(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)‐1H‐benzo[lmn]carbazolo[9,1‐bc][2,8]phenanthroline‐1,3(2H)‐dione) counterpart, as modular photoinitiator with panchromatic photoactivity, featuring a weak C–Br bond from geometric strain for efficient Type I & II initiation. These studies demonstrate applicability of

High-temperature Infrared Transmission of Free-standing Diamond Films
The combination of low absorption and extreme mechanical and thermal properties make diamond a compelling choice for some more extreme far infrared (8-12 μm) window applications. The optical properties of CVD diamond at elevated temperatures are critical

Broadband THz Sources from Gases to Liquids
Matters are generally classified within four states: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. Three of the four states of matter (solid, gas, and plasma) have been used for THz wave generation with short laser pulse excitation for decades, including the recent ...
