Organic Farming Provides Reliable Environmental Benefits but Increases Variability in Crop Yields: A Global Meta-Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, 2019
To promote food security and sustainability, ecologically intensive farming systems should reliably produce adequate yields of high-quality food, enhance the environment, be profitable, and promote social wellbeing.

Pig Farming in Alternative Systems: Strengths and Challenges in Terms of Animal Welfare, Biosecurity, Animal Health and Pork Safety

open access: yesAgriculture, 2020
In pig production, the widespread conventional indoor system with a slatted floor currently dominates. However, this production system is becoming less socially acceptable.

Canterbury farming: production, processing and farming systems

open access: yesProceedings of the New Zealand Grassland Association, 2010
Canterbury is of great significance to New Zealand's agricultural production, with approximately 20% of its farmland. The Region is the largest in New Zealand (by Regional Council boundaries), with 3 m ha of agricultural and exotic forestry land.

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Soil microbial community response to different farm managements in Santa Clara, Cuba

open access: yesBiotecnología Vegetal, 2016
Seven farms (two state, two cooperatives, and three private farms) were selected for assessing effects of farm management on the microbial biomass and the structure of the microbial community, as well as, the responses to seasonality on these two bio ...

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Human‐Centered Innovation: Precision Nutrition and the Future of Food

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutritional science is moving beyond one‐size‐fits‐all recommendations toward more precise and personalized approaches, yet its implementation pathway remains unclear. This paper proposes a human‐centered precision nutrition framework that highlights the central roles of artificial intelligence (AI), food innovation, and human agency.

Resistant Peanut Genotype Reprograms Rhizosphere Metabolism to Enhance Bacterial Wilt Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The resistant peanut genotype selectively recruits beneficial bacteria, which coincides with the activation of salicylic acid (SA)‐dependent systemic acquired resistance (SAR) against Ralstonia solanacearum. Keystone rhizosphere metabolites are positively correlated with both beneficial microbiome assembly and SAR gene expression.

A Disaggregation Strategy for Nanopesticide Fabrication: Investigating the Impact of Nanosizing on Pesticide Biointeractions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To explore the impact of nanosizing on pesticide biointeractions, a 7‐nm (average) emamectin benzoate nanopesticide without nanocarriers or surfactants is fabricated via HOAc‐mediated disaggregation. Nanosizing enhances bioactivity against Megalurothrips usitatus and Meloidogyne enterolobii and improves plant penetration.

The Spatiotemporal Genetic Architecture of Seed Vigor in Upland Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Leveraging the semi‐automated SeedRanger platform, we profiled the germination kinetics of 356 cotton accessions at a 30‐min interval. This high‐throughput phenomic approach delineated a temporal genetic network comprising 541 stage‐specific loci. Crucially, functional validation identified FLA2 as a pivotal, auxin‐modulated regulator that orchestrates
