Fasciola gigantica: surface topography of the adult tegument
Journal of Helminthology, 2001Adult Fasciola gigantica are leaf-shaped with tapered anterior and posterior ends and measure about 35 mm in length and 15 mm in width across the mid section. Under the scanning electron microscope its surface appears rough due to the presence of numerous spines and surface foldings. Both oral and ventral suckers have thick rims covered with transverse

Acquired resistance of merino sheep against Fasciola gigantica
Parasitology Research, 1996Merino sheep acquired resistance against Fasciola gigantica, which is contrary to previous observations of infections with F. hepatica in that breed. The acquired resistance was manifest against young adult parasites. St. Croix sheep had previously been shown to have more resistance than European sheep against F.

Cathepsin Ls (CatLs), the major cysteine protease secreted by Fasciola spp., are important for parasite digestion and tissue invasion. Fasciola gigantica cathepsin L1H (FgCatL1H) is the isotype expressed in the early stages for migration and invasion. In the present study, a monoclonal antibody (MoAb) against recombinant F.

Fasciola gigantica: Purification and characterization of adenosine deaminase
Experimental Parasitology, 2008Nucleotidase cascades (apyrase, 5' nucleotidase, and adenosine deaminase (ADA) were investigated in the parasitic trematode Fasciola gigantica. ADA had the highest activity in the nucleotidase cascades. Adenosine deaminase was purified from F. gigantica through acetone precipitation and chromatography on CM-cellulose.

Efficacy of some Fasciola gigantica antigens.
Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology, 2009The present study tested the antigenic relationship between the three Egyptian strain of Fasciola gigantica antigens; coproantigen, excretory-secretory and egg antigens, versus their related hyper-immune sera and select the most specific one. By using SDS-PAGE, a structural homology was demonstrated in F. gigantica ES and egg antigens.
