The Behavior of Juvenile Fasciola hepatica

The Journal of Parasitology, 1986
The behavioral repertoire of the infective stage of Fasciola hepatica was qualitatively characterized. During activation, a primary activity was the emptying of the ceca by peristaltic-like contractions. Emergence behavior comprised coordinated patterns of body movement and sucker activity specifically directed at disruption of the ventral plug.

Fasciola hepatica in the human eye

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 2005
During intraocular surgery of a 44-year-old woman from Guilan Province in north Iran, a small flat parasite was removed from the anterior chamber angle of the left eye. According to morphological characterisation of the parasite, it was identified as Fasciola hepatica. The route of entry of the parasite was not identified. Meanwhile, stool and serology

Sphingomyelin synthesis in Fasciola hepatica

International Journal for Parasitology, 1990
Whole worms and/or homogenates of F. hepatica incorporate label from cytidine-5-diphospho[methyl-14C]choline,[1-14C]palmitoylCoA,[U- 14C]serine,[2-14C]methionine, [U-14C]glycine, [U-14C]threonine and [U-14C]aspartate into the various intermediates of sphingomyelin synthesis (ketosphinganine, sphinganine, sphingosine, ceramide and sphingomyelin).

Testing Albendazole Resistance in Fasciola hepatica

2020
The egg development test is a useful in vitro tool to detect albendazole (ABZ) resistance in Fasciola hepatica. ABZ is the only flukicidal compound with ovicidal activity. The described test is based on the ABZ capacity to affect parasite egg development and hatching in susceptible parasites, while this effect is lost in ABZ-resistant liver fluke ...

A Histochemical Study with Fasciola hepatica

Research in Veterinary Science, 1967
SUMMARY A histochemical study with freshly isolated adult Fasciola hepatica showed the presence and distribution of succinic dehydrogenase, DPN diaphorase, TPN diaphorase, lactate dehydrogenase, cytochrome oxidase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase within the parasite, and the occurrence of proteolytic activity in its caeca. An investigation

Maintenance in vitro of Fasciola hepatica

Nature, 1954
A NECESSARY preliminary to a study of the physiology of helminths is their maintenance in vitro, a rare accomplishment. Some nematodes and a few cestodes have been maintained for some time with moderate success, and this is also true for certain small trematodes1, but not for Fasciola hepatica.
