Abstract Genetically modified cotton COT102 was developed to confer resistance against several lepidopteran species. The molecular characterisation data and bioinformatic analyses do not identify issues requiring food/feed safety assessment. None of the differences in the agronomic‐phenotypic and compositional characteristics between cotton COT102 and ...

Summary Some interspecific plant hybrids show unequal transmission of chromosomes from parental genomes to the successive generations. It has been suggested that this is due to a differential behavior of parental chromosomes during meiosis. However, underlying mechanism is unknown.

Whole‐genomic DNA amplifications from individually isolated sweet sorghum microspores
Abstract Premise Sorghum is a multi‐use crop, the efficient breeding of which requires the development of new genetic tools. One such tool could be the genetic assessment of free microspores, which are released just after the tetrad stage of pollen development.

Abstract Lewis Knudson first successfully germinated orchid seeds asymbiotically on artificial medium in 1922. While many orchid species have since been grown asymbiotically, the tremendous variation in how species respond to artificial medium and growth conditions ex situ has also become apparent in the past century.

The mRNA‐binding proteome of a critical phase transition during Arabidopsis seed germination
Summary Arabidopsis thaliana seed germination is marked by extensive translational control at two critical phase transitions. The first transition refers to the start of hydration, the hydration translational shift. The second shift, the germination translational shift (GTS) is the phase between testa rupture and radicle protrusion at which the seed ...

Heat‐induced changes in the abundance of wheat Rubisco activase isoforms
Summary The Triticum aestivum (wheat) genome encodes three isoforms of Rubisco activase (Rca) differing in thermostability, which could be exploited to improve the resilience of this crop to global warming. We hypothesized that elevated temperatures would cause an increase in the relative abundance of heat‐stable Rca1β. Wheat plants were grown at 25° C
