The main focus of this paper is to identify HVDC system faults using Fast Fourier Transforms (FFT). The transient recorded in the sending end rectifier is used to detect the type of faults. The paper attempts to classify rectifier side faults and inverter sides faults based on the magnitude of the current third order harmonic information.
