Measuring fluence of fast neutrons with planar silicon detectors

The results of measurements of 1-MeV (Si) equivalent fast neutron fluence with silicon planar detectors are reported. The measurement method is based on the linear dependence of the reverse detector current increment on the neutron fluence: ΔI = α I × Φ × V.

A fast neutron irradiation station has been designed at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. The fluence delivered by this station is less than that of a nuclear reactor, but it is essentially free of slow neutrons and the admixture of gamma rays is small.

Fast-neutron fluence determination with diamond sensors

A new method of determining the fluence with an integrating diamond sensor is developed. The method is based on the results of many experiments on combined irradiation in VVER-1000 of diamond sensors and control samples for which activity data on the fast-neutron fluence were obtained from the 54Mn by a computational-experimental method.
