Bio‐Inspired Gradient Coatings Enhance the Leading Edge Erosion Resistance of Wind Blades

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Rain‐induced erosion of the wind turbine blade leading edge poses a critical challenge to maintenance and operation. Here, we propose a bio‐inspired approach for erosion protection utilising a platelet‐reinforced polyurethane coating with a graded through‐thickness architecture.

X-Ray Spectroscopy Mass Constraints on V1674 Her: The Fastest Nova does not have a Near-Chandrasekhar White Dwarf

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
V1674 Her (Nova Her 2021) is the fastest classical nova ever recorded, with an optical decline time of t _2  ∼ 1 day, typically interpreted as evidence for a white dwarf mass close to the Chandrasekhar limit.

Polystyrene Nanoplastics Drive β‐Cell Dedifferentiation Through Dendritic Cell‐Intrinsic MHC‐I‐Dependent Inflammatory Crosstalk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polystyrene nanoplastics disrupt pancreatic immune–endocrine homeostasis by promoting MHC‐I‐associated dendritic cell activation and inflammatory crosstalk with β cells. This immune remodeling drives β‐cell dedifferentiation, impairs insulin secretion, and aggravates metabolic dysfunction, revealing a previously unrecognized immunometabolic mechanism ...

Challenging Classical Paradigms: Recurrent Nova M31N 2017-01e, a BeWD System in M31?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
M31N 2017-01e is the second-fastest recurrent nova known, with a recurrence period of 2.5 yr in the Andromeda galaxy (M31). This system exhibits a unique combination of properties: a low outburst amplitude (∼3 mag), starkly contrasting with known ...

High‐Power Hybrid Nanogenerator With Multi‐Degree‐of‐Freedom Mechanical Coupling for Harvesting Water Wave Energy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A high‐power hybrid nanogenerator (HP‐HNG) with multi‐degree‐of‐freedom mechanical coupling is reported, integrating multi‐directional wave energy for output to achieve 1 + 1 > 2 energy harvesting. The HP‐HNG achieves a peak output power of 0.764 W, corresponding to a peak power density of 127.303 W m−3. At a wave frequency of 1 Hz, the HP‐HNG delivers

Positron Annihilation Gamma Rays from Novae [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The potential for observing annihilation gamma rays from novae is investigated. These gamma rays, a unique signature of the thermonuclear runaway models of novae, would result from the annihilation of positrons emitted by beta(+)-unstable nuclei produced

Bidirectional Soft Catalysts for Improved Power Performance of Li‐S Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A soft polymer‐metal catalyst is integrated into the binder to create a catalytically active microenvironment that accelerates bidirectional sulfur redox kinetics in lithium‐sulfur batteries. A model polyvinyl alcohol‐Cu catalyst enables high areal capacities at demanding current densities and stable cycling in pouch‐cell prototypes at 0.5 C, achieving

The Narrow Emission Lines of the Very Fast Nova V1721 Aquilae

open access: yesResearch Notes of the AAS
Abstract Infrared spectroscopy, from 12 days after discovery, is presented for the very fast nova V1721 Aquilae. The emission line spectrum, unlike the one present shortly after outburst, is dominated by narrow lines (FWHM ≈ 700 km s −1 ) that include H ...

Magnetic Water Cleaning of Estrogens via Tight yet Dynamic Binding to Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Micropollution is one of the big challenges humanity faces with estrogen hormones being emerging pollutants of concern. Here, a supramolecular design strategy is presented that generates a simple nano‐adsorbent material to magnetically remove low‐concentrated estrogens from water.
