The Fast Reactor

1982
The formidable technical problems involved in the design of a full-scale commercial fast reactor have resulted in the introduction of this system lagging behind that of the thermal reactor by two to three decades. Despite these obstacles, there is a worldwide interest in the fast breeder because of its high potential utilization of uranium fuel, based ...

Fast reactors and the reactor development program

Physics Bulletin, 1964
It is a great pleasure to me to come on this occasion, which is the first Conference arranged by a professional society in Caithness. I am grateful to The Institute of Physics and The Physical Society for inviting me. Here in Caithness the greatest atomic interest must centre on the fast reactor development at Dounreay.

Fast reactor power

Physics Bulletin, 1971
The first fast-reactor nuclear power station in the world, as distinct from experimental assemblies however big these may be, is now in the final construction stages at Dounreay and should be generating power early in 1973. It is the UKAEA's prototype fast reactor (PER) designed to generate 250 MW at first and 300 MW later.

Fast reactor safety

Annals of Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1974
I find that writing about the safety of nuclear reactors becomes more difficult with t ime-no t because reactors are more dangerous than 5-10 years ago; but, because much more is known about reactors, propositions regarding their safety become more detailed and sophisticated.

Fast Spectrum Reactors

2012
Fast Spectrum Reactors presents a detailed overview of world-wide technology contributing to the development of fast spectrum reactors. With a unique focus on the capabilities of fast spectrum reactors to address nuclear waste transmutation issues, in addition to the well-known capabilities of breeding new fuel, this volume describes how fast spectrum ...

Fast reactors

2007
There is a new generation of nuclear power stations on the drawing board. They must be sustainable as well as safe and cost-effective. Can these ambitions be realised? The sustainable power stations are less safe, and the safe ones are less sustainable.
