A fast-response microthermocouple

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1993
A fast-response chromel-alumel (and chromel-constantan) microthermocouple is described and its dynamic characteristics are measured. The microthermocouple features a microdisk junction 0.08 mm in diameter and 2.5 μm thick. Its time constant in turbulent flow of liquid Refrigerant-113 (a poor heat conductor) is measured to be ∼4.6 ms. This time constant

Fast-response magnetic amplifiers

Electrical Engineering, 1954
AMPLIFIERS for use in automatic control systems should feature high gain, high-power output, and fast response along with light weight and reliable operation. In electrical systems magnetic amplifiers are gaining favor because of their rugged construction, but until recently the response time of magnetic amplifiers has been relatively unsatisfactory ...

Fast response Retrodirective Radar

2010 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium, 2010
This paper shows the ability of an all analogue Retrodirective Radar, the first of its type, to provide continuous surveillance and near instantaneous target acquisition while automatically beam steering in real time onto a target which is presented to it.

Fast-response cylindrical air bearing balance

AIAA Journal, 2001
The air bearing balance described has been designed to support the dynamic force measurement requirements of virtual e ight testing. This balance is a single-degree-of-freedom air bearing spindle. The bearing gas e lm is instrumented with fast-response pressure sensors that enable the determination of forces and moments.

Fast-response gamma thermometers

Nuclear Instruments and Methods, 1968
Abstract Reliable fast-response gamma thermometers have been developed for reactor in-core flux monitoring at the USAEC Savannah River Plant. These instruments have long in-core life with constant sensitivity. They are rugged, relatively simple, and low in cost.

Fast Response Multipole Solenoids

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1982
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The growing need for solenoid actuators capable to provide both high traction force and fast response is reviewed. A new concept of a fast response multipole solenoid is described, and a discussion of factors leading to faster solenoid response is given, An improved schedule of energy input into the solenoid coil ...

Metabolic responses to exercise after fasting

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1986
Fasting before exercise increases fat utilization and lowers the rate of muscle glycogen depletion. Since a 24-h fast also depletes liver glycogen, we were interested in blood glucose homeostasis during exercise after fasting. An experiment was conducted with human subjects to determine the effect of fasting on blood metabolite concentrations during ...

Perceptual requirements for fast manual responses

Experimental Brain Research, 2003
The on-line visual control of human movements can be exceptionally fast. Whether it is fast depends on the kind of visual information that is involved. In the present study we examine whether fast on-line control is specific to the magnocellular visual pathway.
