The fat-free mass compartment influences serum leptin in men [PDF]
OBJECTIVE: Recent experimental work in mice has demonstrated that leptin is synthesized by muscle cells. As this latter tissue is the main target for insulin-estimulated glucose disposal, we hypothesized that the muscular and fat-free mass (FFM) compartments might influence serum leptin levels in humans through increased insulin resistance.

Low fat-free mass as a marker of mortality in community-dwelling healthy elderly subjects† [PDF]
Background: low fat-free mass has been related to high mortality in patients. This study evaluated the relationship between body composition of healthy elderly subjects and mortality.

High-intensity interval training combined with vibration and dietary restriction Improves body composition and blood lipids in obese adults: a randomized trial [PDF]
This study aimed to compare the effect of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with additional whole-body vibration (WBV) on body composition and lipid profile in obese/overweight adults on a hypocaloric diet.

Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Dietary Fat, Sugar Consumption, and Cardiorespiratory Fitness in Patients With Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction [PDF]
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is associated with obesity and, indirectly, with unhealthy diet. The role of dietary components in HFpEF is, however, largely unknown.

Serum osmolarity and haematocrit do not modify the association between the impedance index (Ht2/Z) and total body water in the very old: The Newcastle 85+ Study [PDF]
Bioelectrical impedance is a non-invasive technique for the assessment of body composition; however, information on its accuracy in the very old (80+ years) is limited.

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Flow rates are very important factors which affect the volume and speed at which air is moved into and out of lung. Body Mass Index and Waist Hip ratio are the most commonly used parameters nowadays to assess obesity and the diseases associated with it. But both the parameters have the limitation of not distinguishing between fat compartment and muscle
