From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Body composition and testosterone in men: a Mendelian randomization study

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2023
BackgroundTestosterone is an essential sex hormone that plays a vital role in the overall health and development of males. It is well known that obesity decreases testosterone levels, but it is difficult to determine the causal relationship between body ...

Changes in fat mass, fat-free mass and aerobic fitness in severely obese children and adolescents following a residential treatment programme

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this study was to describe changes in fat mass (FM), fat-free mass (FFM) and aerobic fitness in severely obese children and adolescents during residential treatment in the Medical Paediatric Centre Zeepreventorium.

Body fat distribution, fat-free mass and cardiovascular function in the UK Biobank

open access: yes, 2023
Background: Excess adiposity and high body mass index have been associated with cardiac dysfunction and heart failure. However, the role of whole body imaging and independent associations of regional fat and fat-free mass on left ventricular and vascular

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Body Fat Mass, Percent Body Fat, Fat-Free Mass, and Skeletal Muscle Mass Reference Curves for Czech Children Aged 6–11 Years

open access: yesChildren, 2021
Background: Negative lifestyle trends are reflected in overweight and obese children, in which their lack of physical activity results in decreased muscle mass.

Differences in body composition between infants of South Asian and European ancestry: the London Mother and Baby Study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: South Asian children and adults have a more adipose body composition compared with those of European ancestry. This is thought to be related to their increased risk of metabolic disorders. However, little is known about how early in life such

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Assessing body composition by bioelectric impedance analysis and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry in physically active normal and overweight Indian males

open access: yesNational Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 2018
Background: To improve body composition measurement methods for physically active healthy individuals, validation with of bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) with using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) on basis of variation in body mass index (BMI)

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in
