Prediction of Fat-Free Mass in Children
Clinical Pharmacokinetics, 2015Fat-free mass (FFM) is an important covariate for predicting drug clearance. Models for predicting FFM have been developed in adults but there is currently a paucity of mechanism-based models developed to predict FFM in children. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a model to predict FFM in children.A large dataset (496 females and 515 ...

Fat-Free Mass as a Function of Fat Mass and Habitual Activity Level
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 1992The best predictor of energy expenditure in man is the fat-free mass of the body. Fat-free mass explains most of the variation in resting metabolic rate and even in total metabolic rate under sedentary conditions. We studied possible determinants of fat-free mass as routes to influence energy metabolism.

The relationship between body fat mass and fat-free mass.
Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 1991It has been suggested that there is a curvilinear relationship between lean body or fat-free mass and body fat mass. In order to confirm this relationship, body composition was measured by determining body density and total body water using deuterium-labeled water in subjects varying widely in body fat mass. There were 29 males and 75 females with body

Prediction of resting energy expenditure from fat-free mass and fat mass
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1992On the basis of literature values, the relationship between fat-free mass (FFM), fat mass (FM), and resting energy expenditure [REE (kJ/24 h)] was determined for 213 adults (86 males, 127 females). The objectives were to develop a mathematical model to predict REE based on body composition and to evaluate the contribution of FFM and FM to REE.

To what extent is bone mass determined by fat-free or fat mass?
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995One hundred sixty-four healthy black and white women aged 24-79 y were studied to determine to what extent bone mass is determined by fat-free mass (FFM). A multicomponent approach to body composition, with techniques that are not interdependent, was used.

Fat-free mass and fat mass in active boys during adolescence
American Journal of Human Biology, 1997Longitudinal body composition data were examined in 24 active and 10 control boys between the ages of 12.3 and 15.3 years. The main objectives were (1) to contrast the distance and velocity curves of fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM) in active and control groups using chronological and maturity bases, and (2) to compare the timing and magnitude of ...

Muscularity and the density of the fat-free mass in athletes
Journal of Applied Physiology, 2001The purpose of this study was to use estimates of body composition from a four-component model to determine whether the density of the fat-free mass (DFFM) is affected by muscularity or musculoskeletal development in a heterogenous group of athletes and nonathletes.

A cross-sectional relationship of fat-free mass to height expressed as a ratio (FFM:ht) is presented for 1103 people aged 6-86 y. Data are presented for 13 specific age groups by gender. By providing information for normal, healthy individuals, these data may be of comparative value for nutritionists and clinicians concerned with body composition of ...

Adjustment of fat-free mass and fat mass for height in children aged 8 y
International Journal of Obesity, 2002To explore the relationships between height and (a) fat-free mass (FFM) and (b) fat mass (FM) in children in order to determine the optimum means of adjusting body composition for height.Cross-sectional study.Sixty-nine children aged 8 y.Weight and height (HT) were measured, and total body water by deuterium dilution for estimation of fat-free mass and

[Fat mass and fat free mass on ventilatory function in adults].
Sheng li xue bao : [Acta physiologica Sinica], 2013This study is designed to probe for the effects of fat mass (FM) and fat free mass (FFM) on ventilatory function in adults. 1 307 healthy adults (372 males and 935 females) were selected from some localities of Heilongjiang province through random sampling by means of questionnaire and physical examination and measured for height, weight, waist to hip ...
