Reference Norms for a Fat-free Mass Index and Fat Mass Index in the Japanese Child Population

open access: yesJournal of PHYSIOLOGICAL ANTHROPOLOGY and Applied Human Science, 2003
The aims of this study were to determine reference norms for a fat-free mass index (FFMI) and fat mass index (FMI) in a large population of healthy children in Japan, to observe differences in these values in three age groups between ages three and eleven, and to develop percentile distributions for these parameters.

Exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances and body composition in US adolescents aged 12-18 years: an analysis of data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys 2011-2018

open access: yesHygiene and Environmental Health Advances, 2022
Background: The associations between per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and obesity in adolescent remained unclear when considering imaging based methods such as dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scanning.

Serum osmolarity and haematocrit do not modify the association between the impedance index (Ht2/Z) and total body water in the very old: The Newcastle 85+ Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bioelectrical impedance is a non-invasive technique for the assessment of body composition; however, information on its accuracy in the very old (80+ years) is limited.

Body Fat Distribution, Overweight, and Cardiac Structures in School‐Age Children: A Population‐Based Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
Background Adiposity is associated with larger left ventricular mass in children and adults. The role of body fat distribution in these associations is not clear.

Computed tomography measures of nutrition in patients with end-stage liver disease provide a novel approach to characterize deficits [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Aim Patients with cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease (ESLD) develop severe nutrition deficits that impact on morbidity and mortality. Laboratory measures of nutrition fail to fully assess clinical deficits in muscle mass and fat stores.

Reference Standards for Body Fat Measure Using GE Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry in Caucasian Adults

open access: yes, 2017
Background Dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is an established technique for the measurement of body composition. Reference values for these variables, particularly those related to fat mass, are necessary for interpretation and accurate ...

The novel expression method of pediatric body composition : fat mass index and fat-free mass index

open access: yesKorean Journal of Pediatrics, 2007
Purpose : This study was conducted to assess the usefulness of fat-free mass index (FFMI) and fat mass index (FMI) as novel expression methods of body composition in children. Methods : A total of 466 Second grade students-248 boys and 218 girls- from all elementary schools the Gwacheon City underwent anthropometric measures including bioelectrical ...

Association of fat mass index versus appendicular lean mass index with physical function – The Yishun Study

open access: yesAging and Health Research, 2022
Background: Increase in body fat and reduced muscle mass are common body composition changes with age and precedes functional impairment. However, it remains unclear whether increased adiposity or less lean mass is a stronger determinant of worse ...

Bone mineral density and body composition in adolescents with failure to thrive [PDF]

open access: yesEinstein (São Paulo), 2010
Objective To evaluate bone mineral mass in adolescents with failure to thrive in relation to body composition. Methods A case control study involving 126 adolescents (15 to 19 years), in final puberty maturation being 76 eutrophic and 50 with failure to

Reference Standards for Lean Mass Measures Using GE Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry in Caucasian Adults

open access: yes, 2017
Body composition assessments commonly focus predominantly on fat mass, however lean mass (LM) measurements also provide useful information regarding clinical and nutritional status.
