The novel expression method of pediatric body composition : fat mass index and fat-free mass index

open access: yesKorean Journal of Pediatrics, 2007
Purpose : This study was conducted to assess the usefulness of fat-free mass index (FFMI) and fat mass index (FMI) as novel expression methods of body composition in children. Methods : A total of 466 Second grade students-248 boys and 218 girls- from all elementary schools the Gwacheon City underwent anthropometric measures including bioelectrical ...

Prematurity and body composition at 6, 18, and 30 years of age: Pelotas (Brazil) 2004, 1993, and 1982 birth cohorts

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2021
Background We aimed to investigate the association between preterm birth and body composition at 6, 18, and 30 years of age using data from three population-based birth cohort studies.

Lifestyle Behaviors and Cardiotoxic Treatment Risks in Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Higher doses of anthracyclines and heart‐relevant radiotherapy increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. This study assessed CVD and CVD risk factors among adult childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) across cardiotoxic treatment risk groups and examined associations between lifestyle behaviors and treatment risks.

Analyses of body composition charts among younger and older Chinese children and adolescents aged 5 to 18 years

open access: yesBMC Public Health, 2012
Background Childhood obesity has become a major public health problem in China. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of age and sex on the relationship between fat-free mass (FFM) and fat mass (FM), fat-free mass index (FFMI) and fat ...

Changes in Body Composition in Children and Young People Undergoing Treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ongoing evidence indicates increased risk of sarcopenic obesity among children and young people (CYP) with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), often beginning early in treatment, persisting into survivorship. This review evaluates current literature on body composition in CYP with ALL during and after treatment.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Prevalence of low fat-free mass index and high and very high body fat mass index following lung transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesActa Diabetologica, 2003
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of low fat-free mass index (FFMI) and high and very high body fat mass index (BFMI) after lung transplantation (LTR). A total of 37 LTR patients were assessed prior to and at 1 month, 1 year and 2 years for FFM and compared to 37 matched volunteers (VOL).

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Anthropometry, body composition, and athletic performance in specific field tests in Paralympic athletes with different disabilities

open access: yesHeliyon, 2022
Purpose: The structural appearance of each disabled athlete or the shape of their body, as determined by their individual genotype and influenced by the environment, considerably affects their technical and physical performance.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.
