Analysis of body composition parameters: Associations with gender, age, and adiposity indices in adults

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Height-independent body composition parameters such as fat free mass index (FFMI) and body fat mass index (BFMI) allow height-independent interpretation of nutrition status and putatively provide a better assessment of body fat.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Obese patients with a binge eating disorder have an unfavorable metabolic and inflammatory profile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
To evaluate whether obese patients with a binge eating disorder (BED) have an altered metabolic and inflammatory profile related to their eating behaviors compared with non-BED obese.A total of 115 White obese patients consecutively recruited underwent ...

Expression and DNA methylation of 20S proteasome subunits as prognostic and resistance markers in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Comprehensive analysis of genomic mutations, gene expression, DNA methylation, and pathway analysis of TCGA data was carried out to define cancer types in which proteasome subunits expression is associated with worse survival. Albeit the effect of specific proteasome subunits on cellular function, the main role of the proteasome is better evaluated ...

Morphological model of the population of working-age women in Belgrade measured using electrical multichannel bioimpedance model: Pilot study [PDF]

open access: yesFizička Kultura, 2013
The aim of this study was to define the actual model of body composition status of working age women in the territory of Belgrade. The sample comprised 109 women respondents, of an average age of 35.2±9.5 and the length of service = 9.6±9.3 years.

Gut microbiota diversity is prognostic in metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this exploratory study, we investigated the relationship between the gut microbiota and outcome in patients with metastatic hormone receptor‐positive breast cancer, treated in a randomized clinical trial with chemotherapy alone or chemotherapy in combination with immune checkpoint blockade.

Physical fitness in preschool children in relation to later body composition at first grade in school.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
BackgroundThis study aimed to investigate whether better physical fitness in kindergarten predicts later healthier body composition in first grade at school.MethodsBody composition was assessed by skinfold thickness measurements.

Higher dietary flavonoid intakes are associated with lower objectively measured body composition in women: evidence from discordant monozygotic twins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Although dietary flavonoid intake has been associated with less weight gain there are limited data on its impact on fat mass and the contribution of genetic factors to this relationship has not previously been assessed.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Genetic markers of obesity risk: stronger associations with body composition in overweight compared to normal-weight children.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
BackgroundGenetic factors are important determinants of overweight. We examined whether there are differential effect sizes depending on children's body composition.MethodsWe analysed data of n = 4,837 children recorded in the Avon Longitudinal Study of ...
