Time variation in the tail behaviour of bunds futures returns [PDF]
The present paper focuses on three questions: (i) Are heavy tails a relevant feature of the distribution of BUND futures returns? (ii) Is the tail behaviour constant over time?

In a lumbar spine instability model, dorsal root ganglion cells mediate the perception of relevant mechanical stresses through Piezo2 and subsequently release CGRP. CGRP activates the NF‐κB signaling pathway in cartilage endplate cells through the receptor RAMP1.

Do ‘Fat Tails’ Matter in GARCH Estimation? Stock Market Efficiency in Romania and the Czech Republic [PDF]
The use of the GARCH-class of models is commonplace when examining stock market returns. In this paper we use data on stock markets in two transition economies to demonstrate the importance of using the correct GARCH specification.

Fat Tails and the Social Cost of Carbon [PDF]
At high enough greenhouse gas concentrations, climate change might conceivably cause catastrophic damages with small but non-negligible probabilities.

QBP1 Peptide as a Potential Anti‐Amyloidogenic Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes: An In Vitro Study
The anti‐amyloidogenic peptide QBP1 effectively halts human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) aggregation, preventing the formation of toxic β‐structured intermediates. Through a combination of biophysical assays, molecular dynamics, and cell‐based studies, QBP1 is shown to preserve β‐cell viability and metabolic homeostasis, positioning it as a ...

Malectin alleviates high glucose‐induced ER stress and damage in placental trophoblasts, a function dependent on its six critical carbohydrate‐binding residues. In a GDM mouse model, administration of TAT‐Malectin ameliorated hyperglycemia and placental ER stress and prevented fetal macrosomia.

A Bifunctional T3SS‐Effector Simultaneously Cleaves Host MAP Kinase and Inhibits PPM1A Phosphatase
Pathogenic bacteria exploit the metalloprotease effector NleD to subvert host defenses. Structural, biochemical, and infection analyses reveal a bifunctional mechanism by which NleD binds and inhibits the host phosphatase PPM1A while preserving its proteolytic activity against MAPKs.

The Great Moderation Flattens Fat Tails: Disappearing Leptokurtosis
Recently, Fagiolo et al. (2008) find fat tails of economic growth rates after adjusting outliers, autocorrelation and heteroskedasticity. This paper employs US quarterly real output growth, showing that this finding of fat tails may reflect the Great ...

Model-based clustering of non-Gaussian panel data based on skew-t distributions [PDF]
We propose a model-based method to cluster units within a panel. The underlying model is autoregressive and non-Gaussian, allowing for both skewness and fat tails, and the units are clustered according to their dynamic behavior.
