Fatality and influence factors in high-casualty fires: A correspondence analysis

Safety Science, 2012
The technology of correspondence analysis was applied to high-casualty fire data in China. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between fatality levels and influence factors that involve place, cause, time of day, month, year and province. The variable fatality in a fire has four levels: 3, 4-5, 6-9 and ⩾10.

Trends in the Casualty Ratio of Injured to Fatalities in Earthquakes

2010
The worldwide ratio of injured to fatalities in earthquakes, R = Inj/Fat, has increased over time. This shows that it is more likely by approximately a factor of 2 that a person survives an earthquake today than 50 years ago. However, any meaningful analysis of R requires (as a minimum) separation by type of country and by location of epicentres (land ...

Mass Fatality Management in Mass Casualty Incidents

2018
Sudden mass causality incidents (SMCI) and disasters may be associated with a mass fatality incident (MFI) sometimes exceeding local capacity. A scheme to manage mass number of deceased needs to be integrated within the overall disaster plan of the city and region (Fig. 23.1).

Electronic noses: Forestalling fire disasters: A technique to prevent false fire alarms and fatal casualties

2015 IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Computing Research (ICCIC), 2015
The need for sensor devices has been picking up the pace to develop new applications in several technological fields. The current state-of-the-art of this sensor technology used in modern electronic nose designs to operate in a different manner which makes easier to prevent various fire accidents. The chamber of the E-Nose (Electronic-Natural Olfactory

Review of: Mass Fatality and Casualty Incidents. A Field Guide

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2001
Abstract The author recommends that you read through this entire “field guide,” and that you ask yourself how you or your agency fits into the response to mass fatality and casualty incidents. This seemed like strange advice for a book with a “field guide” format, including numerous lists and outlines of procedures.

A comparative study assessing factors that influence home fire casualties and fatalities using state fire incident data

Journal of Fire Protection Engineering, 2013
The major factors that impact residential fire losses and casualties are relatively well known both on the national level and for any given state. Interestingly, relatively little has been done in comparing fire loss data between states. If state fire loss data are compared, one should be able to identify contributing factors that influence differences
