Competition and fatigue [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Economic Behavior & Organization, 2019
We study theoretically and experimentally the role of fatigue and recovery within a competitive work environment. At work, agents usually make their effort choice in response to competition and monetary incentives. At the same time, they have to take into account fatigue, which accumulates over time if there is insufficient recovery.

Repeat Expansions in PLIN4 Cause Autosomal Dominant Vacuolar Myopathy With Sarcolemmal Features

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective We aim to describe and characterize two unrelated Spanish families suffering from an autosomal dominant autophagic vacuolar myopathy caused by repeat expansions in PLIN4. Methods We evaluated the clinical phenotype and muscle imaging, and performed a genetic workup that included exome sequencing, muscle RNAseq, and long‐read genome ...

Poststroke Fatigue: Who Is at Risk for an Increase in Fatigue? [PDF]

open access: yesStroke Research and Treatment, 2012
Background. Several studies have examined determinants related to post-stroke fatigue. However, it is unclear which determinants can predict an increase in poststroke fatigue over time.Aim. This prospective cohort study aimed to identify determinants which predict an increase in post-stroke fatigue.Methods.

NOTCH2NLC Repeat Expansions in Parkinsonian Disorders: Clinical and Neuroimaging Characteristics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by NOTCH2NLC GGC repeat expansions, with heterogeneous clinical manifestations, including parkinsonism. Recent studies have identified NOTCH2NLC repeat expansions in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and atypical parkinsonism (aPM), suggesting ...

Limited Benefit of Sleep Extension on Cognitive Deficits During Total Sleep Deprivation: Illustration With Two Executive Processes

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Introduction: Sleep extension has been associated with better alertness and sustained attention capacities before, during and after sleep loss. However, less is known about such beneficial effect on executive functions (EFs).

Translating a Preclinically Tested 15 Hz rTMS Protocol to Humans With Chronic Spinal Cord Injury: A Safety and Feasibility Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non‐invasive brain stimulation strategy with a demonstrated potential to reinforce the residual pathways after a spinal cord injury (SCI). A preclinically tested high‐frequency (15 Hz) rTMS (15 Hz rTMS) protocol was shown to induce corticospinal tract axon regeneration growth ...

Shot Peening Effects on Subsurface Layer Properties and Fatigue Performance of Case-Hardened 18CrNiMo7-6 Steel

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
The present study is conducted with a dual-aim: firstly, to examine the effect of several single shot peening conditions on the subsurface layer properties and fatigue performance of the case-hardened 18CrNiMo7-6 steel, and secondly, to propose an ...
