Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

ON CRACK CLOSURE IN FATIGUE CRACK GROWTH

open access: yes, 1978
A brief review of the various forms of closure is given, and the relative importance of plasticity-induced closure and roughness-induced closure is considered. On the basis of the lack of a thickness effect and an insensitivity to R in the absence of closure it is concluded that plasticity-induced closure plays a relatively minor role in affecting the ...

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion

Crack propagation analysis and fatigue life assessment of high-strength bolts based on fracture mechanics

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
To investigate the effect of initial cracks on the fatigue performance of high-strength bolts for high-speed train brake discs, the fatigue crack propagation behavior of high-strength bolts under the coupling action of preload and dynamic fatigue load ...

Fatigue crack behaviour : comparing three-point bend test and wedge splitting test data on vibrated concrete using Paris' law [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The fatigue behaviour of concrete has become more important for the design of constructions due to the desire to build slimmer structures, which are more sensitive to fatigue loading.

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Effect of crack-inclusion interaction on fatigue behavior of rib-to-deck joints in orthotropic steel deck

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
There are various types of initial defects in weld joints of orthotropic steel deck, which significantly impact the fatigue crack growth behavior of the welds.

Difracción de rayos X y difracción de neutrones en estudios de fatiga y fractura de materiales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Conferencia invitada de Joseph F KelleherThe fatigue behaviour of polycrystalline metals is often studied through crack propagation analysis [1,2]. Nevertheless, understanding the mechanical processes that take place right at the crack tip [3,4] would ...

Scaling Invariance of Fatigue Crack Growth in Gigacycle Loading Regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The role of the collective behavior of defect ensembles at the crack tip and the laws of fatigue crack propagation in R4 high strength steel have been studied under conditions of symmetric tension–compression gigacycle loading at 20 kHz.
