Quasi-in-situ observation of fatigue crack growth behavior of friction stir welded 2024-T4 joint

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
This study presents a quasi- in situ observation of the fatigue crack growth behavior in a friction stir welded 2024-T4 joint. The microstructure and fatigue properties of the joint were investigated using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Fatigue Crack Growth in Thin-Wall Pipes Subjected to Bending [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Technology, 2019
In this paper, a circumferential external surface flaw in a metallic round pipe under cyclic bending loading is considered. Because of very rapid changes in the geometrical parameters around the crack front region, the mesh generation of this region must

Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

Study on crack propagation of 42CrMo

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2019
For the fatigue failure of 42CrMo, the tensile test was performed on the CT specimen at different load ratios using a fatigue tensile tester. Data on the fatigue crack growth rate of the material and the crack tip factor were obtained.

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Surface Crack Shape Evolution Modelling using an RMS SIF approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The majority of fatigue cracks in thick plate and tubular sections in structural components are two-dimensional surface cracks having significant propagation lives before becoming critical.

Fatigue behaviour of AA6061-T6 alloys in the corrosive environment

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The combined effects of corrosion and fatigue are known to be hazardous threats to structural integrity of aluminium alloys that are being extensively used in marine applications.
