A fatigue crack propagation model

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1984
Abstract A model for fatigue crack propagation has been developed which incorporates mechanical, cyclic and fatigue properties as well as a length parameter. The latter can be associated with the microstructure of the material. The fatigue failure criterion is based on a measure of the dissipated plastic strain energy.

The Mechanism of Fatigue Crack Propagation

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
As a retardation of fatigue crack propagation occur under two step loading such as high to low loading, it is difficult to predictt the fatigue life in variable loading conditions. Therefore, the mechanism of retardation was investigated by changing the ratio of two step-loading in some materials in this paper.

Fatigue crack propagation in torsion

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1957
Abstract The redistribution of stress and strain in front of a growing crack in it twisted bar is derived, assuming the material to be ideally plastic. The result is used in connexion with a simple fracture criterion to determine the initial rate of growth of a fatigue crack. Experiments with torsion members are reported.

Fatigue crack propagation—an analysis

Philosophical Magazine, 1968
Abstract A simple theory is developed to assess quantitatively the mechanism of fatigue crack propagation in metals. The basic laws governing fatigue are derived theoretically for failure in both the high and low stress regions, and the material parameters controlling crack propagation determined.

Corrosion Fatigue Crack Propagation

1983
There is a cogent argument for the proposition, illustrated in Figure 1, that there is a spectrum of rate-determining steps in environmentally-controlled subcritical crack propagation encompassed by the phenomena ‘corrosion-fatigue’ (C.F.), ‘hydrogen-embrittlement’ (HE) and’ stress-corrosion cracking’ (SCC).
