Enhanced Strength and Corrosion Resistance of Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn Alloy by Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work systematically investigates the effect of aging treatment on mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of vacuum arc‐melted Ti‐13Nb‐12Ta‐10Zr‐4Sn alloy. Owing to the increased α″ martensite, strength and corrosion resistance were significantly enhanced by aging treatment.

The impact of hydrogen on the ductility loss of bainitic Fe–C alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The influence of hydrogen on the mechanical properties of generic lab-cast Fe-C bainitic alloys is studied by tensile tests on notched samples. The bainitic microstructure is induced in a 0.2% C and 0.4% C Fe-C alloy by an appropriate heat treatment. The

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Can acoustic emission detect the initiation of fatigue cracks: Application to high-strength light alloys used in aeronautics [PDF]

open access: yes
Acoustic emission was used for the detection of fatigue cracking in a number of high-strength light alloys used in aeronautical structures. Among the features studied were: the influence of emission frequency, the effect of surface oxidation, and the ...

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF WELDED STRUCTURES [PDF]

open access: yesFiabilitate şi Durabilitate, 2018
Fatigue is a phenomenon consisting of the accumulation of stresses and deformations that cause cracking and sometimes dismantling or even destruction of structures as a consequence of applying variable loads over time as intensity and position ( load ...
