Correcting Fatigue Life Inadequacy

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1962
WHERE service life, cither actual or simulated, has proven to be inadequate, the need for a simple conversion of fatigue cycles to service life is paramount. The task becomes exceedingly difficult in the case of service life where neither number nor magnitudes of loads can be determined.

Fatigue Life Relations

2006
Abstract This chapter familiarizes readers with the methods used to quantify the effects of fatigue on component lifetime and failure. It discusses the development and use of S-N (stress amplitude vs. cycles to failure) curves, the emergence of strain-based approaches to fatigue analysis, and important refinements and modifications.

Analytical Fatigue-Life Estimate

2017
In the preceding chapters, the procedure for transforming measured stress-time functions to yield a stress spectrum and a frequency matrix has been described. This transformation is a prerequisite for the load assumption, which is necessary for designing and dimensioning of structural components with the required fatigue strength under variable stress ...

Contact Fatigue Tests and Contact Fatigue Life Analysis

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The main objective of this paper is to investigate contact fatigue life models and to evaluate the effect of surface finish on contact fatigue life. The effect of surface finish on contact fatigue life was investigated experimentally using two roller contact fatigue tests. The test samples, i.e.

Fatigue Life Prediction Models

2011
Chapter 4 deals with low cycle fatigue tests and derivation of fatigue life prediction models curve-fitted to the fatigue test data for Sn–Ag–Cu and Sn–Cu solder alloys. The fatigue tests were conducted under low cycle fatigue test conditions over a wide range of isothermal temperatures (−40°C to +125°C) and frequencies.

Prediction of Fatigue Life

Journal of Applied Physics, 1960
On the basis of the relation between the ``reliability-function'' (probability of surviving beyond age N in cycles or t in time) and the ``risk'' of failure (as a function of age), the physical interpretation of the latter can be used to extrapolate the former beyond the range of possible observation.

Thermal fatigue life prediction

Materials Testing, 2004
Abstract For clarifying the behavior of thermal fatigue and verifying the role of Coffin-Manson’s law in thermal fatigue, out-of phase type thermal fatigue tests were carried out on ferritic ductile cast iron. As a result of the tests, the dependence of thermal fatigue life and the plastic strain produced in each cycle on cyclic peak ...

Fatigue Life Distribution Estimation

2020
Modeling fatigue life is complex whether it is applied to structures or experimental programs. Through the years several empirical approaches have been utilized. Each approach has positive aspects; however, none have been acceptable for every circumstance.
